New Year’s Resolutions - Return to this thread December 2021

Options
Following on from our December 2019 resolutions thread this is your chance to set your intentions for 2021.

I know it feels odd to be setting goals when so much is unknown and unpredictable, but 2021 is going to happen in any case and I’m going to try to focus on the bits that I have some control over. As always I’m taking some time to think and will come back and post mine in early January but setting this up now as I know some people are organised earlier than I am.  FWIW I’m presuming that the vaccine will kick in properly by the middle of the year and that I will still be well and healthy by then.

As an aside, I was listening to a podcast earlier (Gretchen Rubin’s) and she suggests having a word of the year, just in case it’s useful, I’m thinking about it myself. She also has a 21 in 21 list which is a nice idea too, and includes a few fun or interesting plans, not just things that feel like effort.

Who’s in??

I like many really assessed my life during the first lockdown.
I took that opportunity to make some resolutions which I'm pleased to say I've stuck to, apart from going to the theatre more- for obvious reasons.

So this New Year I personally don't feel the need to make more
  • I love this post, I'm going to come back to it after a year. It was a lot of hard stuff, but also a lot of good stuff. I don't set goals for 2021, I just want to live it healthy and happy. But those are kind of goals, too.

Most of mine will be carried over from 2020 but just so that I have them written down somewhere here goes
    1) I want to walk the Camino de Santiago
    2) I want to finish my temperature blanket for 2020
    3) I want to send off 4 blankets ( or their equivalent) to the charity that I knit for
    4) I want to get back to reading more & spend less time on the ipad ...until the libraries open I'm not sure whether this is going to succeed as I'm using the digital service that my library service offers.
    5) Get back to healthy eating and have some sort of exercise routine
    6) Really make a concerted effort to clear the CCs....I only have a small amount now left and I've been tinkering at the edges of it.

I'm in!   And my very first action is going to be:......staying up after midnight on 31 December 2020 - in order to stand at the front door and bang this bl**dy year away!
For 2021, I intend to do the things that were planned for 2020 - including seeing all my sisters and brothers again, visiting my own children and grandchildren, wherever they might be in 2021.   I want to see as many of my friends as I can afford to visit, once I've had the vaccination (should be mid January) and who are happy to see me.
I've started writing again ...a sort of blog/diary/factional thingy .....must carry on with it and see just how far it can go.
Some plans that were made for 2020 have, sadly, gone completely and I must re-think whether and when I should put my bungalow on the market - if I should put it on the market, and if so, where do I plan to live?

I think my longstanding resolution to NEVER make another New Years resolution will hold again, without the slightest problem
  • In no order:
Try to get out more/meet new people.
Lose weight as I got to my biggest this last quarter this year.
I was wanting to go vegetarian too but I’m still not sure how my folks will take it.
Keep teeth and hair in good condition.
Do a bit of clearing of the flat.
Start saving more money - already started today doing a trial I’d unexpectedly received £80 to put in the jar no matter what happens.
Go on holiday which involves a plane in 2021.
    Survive Covid19.

  • - Have a decent savings pot
    - Spend lots of quality time with my daughter
    - Clean more
As I am now self employed the second two should be easier than the first. Happy New Year all!
Debt Free as of December 2020 👏

    Save 12k in 2025 #6 - £300 / £3000

Okay, I’m up for this! My list is going to be far too long so probably unachievable but I like to be ambitious and you never know... so, here we go...
    • Meal plan in advance
    • Drink more water
    • Lose weight (I’d like to get down to 8 1/2 stone)
    • Complete the Lands End to John o’Groats virtual challenge
    • Home improvements (master bedroom, en-suite, home office, loft)
    • Outside improvements (new driveway, replace fencing in back garden, build a vegetable patch)
    • Be more organised and therefore less stressed at work
    • Start a family!
    • Finally, not in my control, but please please please, Spurs, win a trophy this year!! Please!

    Background -
    • In 2019, I seperated from my adulterous wife. New bloke was on the scene / in the house within weeks. It hit me hard, as we have children / were together for 13+ years.
    • In 2020, I moved jobs / areas to restart my life immediately before lockdown, the divorce was completed, and the financial consent order received on the 24th Dec 2020. I travel across the country every other weekend to collect / drop off the children.

    So for me, 2021 involves...
    • Finding somewhere to rent (near the children) until Ex-Mrs AO re-mortgages the family home.
    • Buy a 'house' (near the children) around April / May time, hopefully as house prices fall.
    • Remain single, to allow myself to re-grow without any external influences (i.e. a Partner / Girlfriend trying to mould me).
    • Buy a motorbike (again), get out on some ride-outs and make some friends.
    • Find a hobby, as it seems that "being a dad" is currently my only thing.
    • Enroll onto the BSc (Hons) Engineering Degree
    • Go on holiday in March 2020.
    • Find someone to go on holiday with!
