New Shell Energy customer - when does the 3% fuel (petrol) discount get applied?

So, I've recently switched to Shell Energy for Gas & Elec - switch has fully gone through, linked my Shell Energy account with my Shell Go+ account in order to activate the 3% (up to 60l) fuel (petrol/diesel) discount.

Just been to fill the motor up - opened my Shell Energy app which then in turn links through to Shell Go+. Filled up to the amount of £49.50, got an email receipt for £49.50. Bank shows the same amount pending. 

My question is this - when does the 3% discount get applied? Is this in the form of a refund? It definitely hasn't already been applied up to this point.

The discount didn't used to work if paid through the app but as I am no longer with Shell Energy this may well have changed. When paying at a till it simply gets taken off before payment though.

I was worried that might be the case. I don't recall reading that anywhere beforehand though. 

Shame. I'd rather use my usual filling station and discard the discount than go into the store... Reducing covid risk is more important!
