Reassign drive letters win 10

Hope somebody can tell me how to reassign a partition that currently shows as H: to be reverted to the C drive!!
Following a held and various attempts to fix the system thread exception not handled -that all failed- somehow on old copy of win10 on a partition has been assigned as the C: drive.
I am currently restoring the proper c drive (that had to be assigned H:) from a backup.
Assuming this is successful how to I get it back to the original C assignment?
Switch off the 'new C drive' (it is part of the rust spinner) to then boot from the SSD drive again (and reassign it),
Edit the registry (not that keen but will do if necessary) or
Can it be done then from within drive manager on windows?
Any help will be most welcome!!

If someone tells you to do a simple fix that changes the drive letter, don't do it.
there are loads of things that point to the C: - or now h:. Even if they don't directly point to it, they access it via an id number. these items could be registry or partition based located.
I have been in this position, did the renaming of the letter and...
Think i reinstalled with a new version of windows straight over, but it was about 7 years ago, so I'm a bit fuzzy.
