Has any body had an energy supplier cancel there current supply with out your permission?? The people’s energy have cancelled my British Gas accounts and taken over my energy supply without my consent I never sighed any thing or applied for it they are saying a company called look after my bills have done this but the the new account is in my sons name and the bank account attached to it doesn’t exist and I feel they legally cancelled my British Gas account in my name with out contacting me as it’s my name on the bills not my sons how can they doe this ?? I spoke to people’s energy who said I can’t cancel the contract as I’ve gone by 14 days cooling off period !! I have told them how can I have if my energy with them started yesterday ? and I had no idea they had taken over they haven’t sent any letters or emails to me or my son welcoming us to there company then I would of rang them and told them to cancel I have told them they can cancel this as a erroneous transfer and they said it could take 6-8 weeks, does any one know if there’s any thing else I can do as this is fraud using my name cancelling my accounts and also my sons name opening accounts in his name ?

They pretty much have to take someone sayiong they are now reponsible at face value, so not much to do there. It would be too complicated otherwise.As for what to do, maybe look at what your son has done. He has obviously signed up for something eitherunwittingly or having some agenda (for instance to get a discount on something). If you feel someone is out to get your son and did this for that reason then go after them.0

Looks like an ERRONEOUS TRANSFER. These happen when another customer wants to Switch and the data gets scrambled in the system, leading to the wrong account being Switched'The rule is that the wrongly switched customer must be returned to the original supplier and suffer no financial lossWRITE a joint letter headed Complaint to both BG & PE1

Could your son have signed up with Look After My Bills - Cheap Energy Forever ? They are a company who auto switch your energy provider for you, when you can get a cheaper deal. But they don't just spontaneously start doing it, they only do it once someone has signed up with them.
It's unlikely anything illegal or fraudulent has happened.
As stated above, if you wish to go back to BG, write to both companies with a complaint stating erroneous transfer. And get in touch with Lookaftermybills.com and unsubscribe so it doesn't happen again.1 -
I've just had the same happen to me, People's Energy have taken over my account according to Green Energy, L.A.M.B. state that they haven't authorized a switch. People's Energy have not contacted me, I have had no emails from them, no request for meter readings, zilch. So there's obviously some fraud happening here? I've also discovered that People's Energy tried to take £400 from my step daughter's account, she isn't registered with any power companies or with L.A.M.B. in fact she doesn't even live in the UK and hasn't for 8 years!

Do not go with company's that say they will do it for you.

Have either of the people "erroneously switched" ever been with People's Energy?
They had a data breach late 2020 which includes personal information of old customers (hence why payment information won't be correct). I don't know why someone would want to use the information this way, but just something that could explain it if more people are noticing this?
Alternatively... if you use any sort of auto-switcher just cancel it now... they don't look after your bills and don't include the entire market, meaning that you aren't getting the best savings but your details are getting passed around by a 3rd party.1
