Nespresso Vertuo Next

Options
We purchased the Nespresso Vertuo Next on the 10th December, delivered to us on the 16th December. We have been trying it out with the free sample capsule set they sent us and to be honest, we are completely underwhelmed with the coffee it produces. We are a coffee drinking household and we were expecting good things from it, but ultimately, what we get after a few seconds of it being made is no better than an instant cup of coffee in varying different sizes from espresso size to literally half a pint of coffee. The 'rich crema' that you supposedly get is non-existent.
We called today as we wish to return the item as it doesn't serve the purpose of which we bought it for and feels like a case of false advertising. It certainly doesn't produce what they describe. They have agreed to collect the coffee machine and will credit our online Nespresso account with the £179.99 so we can buy another machine, but not refund the card that we purchased it with. Is this correct? Is there anything we can go back to them with? I believe the machine is faulty but they are insisting it isn't and we are not entitled to a refund, but surely if it isn't producing what is promised, there is something wrong with the machine.

Any advice would be appreciated, thank you

Tricky one.  If it's not faulty, you have no right to return it (unless their policy permits a change of mind type refund).

Why not ask them to send a replacement and see how that performs?  If it works well, the original was faulty and you now have a working machine. If it's the same, it's probably not faulty and just not up to the standard you want, but that's a very subjective thing.

What reaserch did you do before the purchase ?

Do the issues you describe also get mentioned in reviews posted on various sites ?
  • We already own the Lavazza Modo Mia which is brilliant for milk based coffee's, but we wanted something that offered different sizes of black coffee with a good crema. I know there are Nespresso Boutiques and in normal times we would have visited one, but other than reading reviews I'm not sure what else we could do at the moment. Having read lots of review websites and through reviews on stores such as John Lewis etc everyone raved about the quality of the coffee and the varying sizes and crema was a big pro for a lot of people, so that is what helped make our decision as it was exactly what we were after. So the fact that no reviewer really mentions this, leads me to believe that it is in fact faulty.
  • I'd definitely ask for a replacement, then.

I'll be honest. At that price range I would be looking at going up to bean to cup

I agree much better coffee and if you drink a lot of coffee wil pay for itself compared to pod machine in less than 2 years.

I jumped from Nespresso for that reason.

2nd that having had a Tassimo for 4 years, (always Costa pods) but wanted something a bit more to save on the costs of visiting coffee shops for a cup (hate takeaway ones). So 2nd lockdown forced purchase of a Bean2Cup machine.

Ah the joy of real coffee any time of the day. As well as it takes less time for a long shot than it does to boil the kettle :)

Could just be the actual coffee used not the machine itself aka free sample coffee .
Many variations in a persons coffee taste .

Agree, I have tried several sample packs of beans that have to my taste buds been rank.
Finding something that is to your taste is part of the fun.

rich crema can be affected by the water hard/softness in your area. Try filtered water and see if it helps.
