Nationwide Flex Plus

Searched the forum but found nothing about value of packaged accounts in the current situation we are in.
Do people still see any point in keeping packaged account such as Nationwide Flex Plus?
£13 p/m for family worldwide travel insurance, European car breakdown assistance and quite generous mobile phones insurance.
Looks good on paper as plenty of value (in theory, at least)... and main page of MSE still has it as a top deal...
but then due to pandemic, lockdowns, Tiers etc. no foreign travel/holidays at all, not much car usage (barely done 1000 miles this year).
Would be nice to have monthly fee reduced temporarily but it's not going to happen.

Keep it as it will get more interest. And when we go back to normal next year you’ll use it again for travelling ect
but still use it because it might go to a dormant account.Bonjour ! Xx0 -
I like the Halifax one personally for £17 pound.0

Flex plus probably offers the best value for a packaged account but you need to do your own sums and work out whether it is worthwhile for your own personal circumstances. If it does but not currently then you can of course downgrade and then upgrade when travel becomes more practical for example.
I claimed for a cancelled holiday around 18 months ago and thought the service was quite poor, have subsequently downgraded and have a flex direct but would consider again if I thought worthwhile.1 -
I made two claims when Shearings went into administration and had very good service from Nationwide.
I also like non-commission cash withdrawals abroad. I can use contactless in Europe and don't have to carry large amounts of cash around with me which I like.
Also their grey debit card makes me feel more superior than people with the boring blue Flex Account card.1 -
Many services aren't being used now. For example data on mobile phones - if people are home and connect to wi-fi data packages aren't being used as much. The Nationwide Plus account is great value. I guess it depends on how much do you foresee driving and traveling in 2021... if you don't think it will happen, then cancel the account. You could try to open the account when 'normal' life is back.jadex said:Searched the forum but found nothing about value of packaged accounts in the current situation we are in.

PS. I am keeping my Nationwide FlexPlus, but only because the £13 fee is partly offset by Barclays blue rewards -- I get £12 in rewards (£8 net, after paying the account fee), as I have a mortgage with them.0

Still keeping mine; as a joint account I am getting 2x travel & breakdown insurance & phones insurance, so worth it (admittedly no foreign travel in the foreseeable).Ethical moneysaver0

I'm keeping it, rather than saving a few £ over the next 6-12 months.
I've used the breakdown cover this year so it has been useful.
I believe they removed the interest on the account a while back.XoCAlop said:Keep it as it will get more interest."Real knowledge is knowing the extent of one's ignorance."1 -
If you aren't using the flexplus features then why not take the £8 from barclays and spend it on something you will use?evanescent said:PS. If you have 2021/22 holidays booked before 1st January 2021 keeping the Flex Plus account open will still cover them against Coronavirus related issues worldwide, that particular area of cover ceased from the 1st January for all NEW holiday bookings. I'm keeping my FP account open at least until after our June 2022 holiday has taken place solely for that reason.0
