Right of manufacturer to insist on using their products otherwise warranty is invalid

I've just bought a new carpet shampooing machine and have found that the manufacturer has said that unless I use their own brand shampoo then the warranty is invalid. With my old machine I used a solution made by a reputable company other than this manufacturer without any problems. The question is " Is the manufacturer entitled to say that the warranty is invalid if I use a well-established brand of cleaner other than their own?" If the prices weren't too much different then I'd use the manufacturer's own. However, their product is several times more expensive per litre than anyone else's. Your comments would be appreciated. Thank you.

For a warranty the manufacturer can stipulate whatever conditions they wish.
A warranty is in addition to your normal consumer rights with the retailer.
  • The warranty is subject to their conditions. You do not have to abide by them. It is your choice.
It does not affect your consumer rights though!

It is perfectly reasonable of the manufacturer.
They are not interested in the reputation of your manufacturer of cheaper shampoo.
Meindl   insist on you using their sports wax  to treat their  leather Walking  boots or warranty is void
It appears that they rebrand Grangers wax which is half the price but I am not willing to take that chance.
I have in addition just seen a  6 month old £400 printer destroyed by pattern toner and the Manufacturer did not want to know

In practical terms how will they know what shampoo you have been using?

Chemical composition, if they wanted to test it.
