Hi
I am just trying to verify the spec of a refurbed pc. The product ordered was to include a DVDRW.
When I look at the device manager it lists as PLDS DVD-ROM DS-8DBSH (going by the ROM, I would have thought this is Read Only Memory). I have tried googling this description but I still can't work out if it is read only or read and write. I haven't got any discs available to see if I can burn anything.
Is anyone able to confirm if this is a RW?
Many thanks

Googling suggests it might be a burner.I think the best way to test is to attempt to start burning a disc. Most programs will give a clear error message if they can't find a burner at all.Other ideas:What does it say on the front of the disc tray? (Although, the front piece could be a replacement). If it's a Dell PC, look up the service tag on Dell's support pages. It should tell you the original spec. (Though again, parts could be changed).1

The DS-8DBSH appears to be a DVD ROM drive. It will not write.

Any DVD ROM is a read-only device.1

Yes, that was my initial thoughts and which alerted me to the possible problem.jsmith9 said:Any DVD ROM is a read-only device.0 -
For best info download Belarc Advisor - it is free. https://www.belarc.com/products_belarc_advisorThat will tell you exactly what is installed and then the actual dvd drive can be looked up (plus a lot more info about your refurb machine)
