2d, I have a cherry on dwarfing stock, in the ground, Sunburst
I have to cover mine but have found it easier to use small mesh chicken wire rather than netting
Maybe if making a cage or supports netting would do nicely, but wire mesh can be bent & retain shape without support

Oh that gives me some hope. We bought a minarette style Sunburst last year but I pinched the wrong leaf growth out and only had one fruit and something beat us to it. I'm hoping this year will be better and I'll be a lot more careful what I do with it.

  • I was badly let down by Chris Bowers. My advice to anyone thinking of placing an order with them is - AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE. They took my order for 4 trees in early January. When they didn't deliver the only way to contacty them was by Email because they never answer the phone. They repeatedly told me they were 'working hard' and that my order would be with me soon. The weeks rolled by and then they just cancelled my order! Nothing! By this time the planting season was over and other suppliers had sold out. A year lost! I am not the only one to have been let down, as you will see from the very many reviews on Trustpilot. Meanwhile, Chris Bowers is still taking orders as though it's business as usual. This is an apallingly bad company that does not deserve to remain in business.

We also discovered, by chance, that having someone type their book in a tent pitched next to a cherry tree meant that the birds didn't get the fruit that summer. Until then we had imagined that our morello cherry wasn't very productive.

That sounds a lovely alternative to the usual gas-gun bird-scarer! I could do with hiring a typist for my cherry, but I suspect that the current crop of writers are likely to make much less noise, tapping away on their iPads :)

Another one let down here, at least the money is coming back and not lost
Shame really because the trees I ordered were not the usual varieties, which is why I was looking forward to them

No cherries that I can see. There are plenty of ornamental cherries but I never get why people wouldn't plant something that was edible as well as decorative.
I have a dwarf cherry in a pot, but have never had a single fruit from it.  The blackbirds wake up earlier than me !
Many years ago, a rather creepy acquaintance of my father's explained that using ladies fishnet stockings over the branches of the cherry tree secured one luscious fruit!

The cherry tree now outside my kitchen window fruits every year and each summer I see the wood pigeons arriving to scoff cherries while the local feral pigeons completely ignore the feast. The wood pigeons only visit the tree for the fruit and seem to time themselves perfectly and then strip the tree bare within two to three days.
Last year we loads of cherries growing at the bottom of our garden but the pigeons ate them all , i looked out one day and one bird sat on a branch pushing it down so the other fat git could peck off the cherries whilst sitting on the fence  :#

Similar here Ganga. I watched the young fledgling blackbirds so the same with my raspberries. Sit on a branch the netting was hanging over and pulling them through the holes.
Years ago while working I couldn't understand why the biggest fattest strawberries were vanishing at the point of ripening. Netting was raised on sticks a few inches above the plants and round the sides. My dog was putting a paw either side of the netting till it went down and the strawberry popped through. I didn't know whether to praise the intelligence or yell in frustration.
My next dog used to jump to get plums off the lowest branches. Always when I wasn't looking.
It's all a constant battle of wits.

Next door have cut their cherry and apple trees down, which is a shame.

I'm hoping to buy some and keep them in pots, just need to find the right supplier for my weather; I've already got netting for my garden.

I have a company recommended to me by a friend who's used them several times and says the quality of the bedding and bulbs is excellent. I was tempted by their Minature Patio Fruit Trees and single stem ones.
J Parker Manchester. Just with so much rain here I haven't been in the garden so didn't get around to trying them this year.
I've got the brochure which they still do. I like having those to look at more than online. But just having looked online there are weekly sales (darn I missed the one I'd have liked) and web deals plus online chat etc. https://www.jparkers.co.uk/ Delivery didn't look extortionate either though I'm not practised at that.
Tescos did some nice ones last year just a couple of feet high and wide but unfamiliar varieties. I took a photo of the tag and looked them up for polinators. They are growing fine.

Thanks @twopenny the patio selection is what I'm after, shame they're out of stock!
I have thought about trying Tesco / Aldi, see if they have anything.

Check the polinators for the varieties though.
