M & S &More Card:Credit Transactions Declined?

Has anyone else had problems getting a refund back to a M & S &MORE CC?
I use this as my “purchasing” card, paying off in full every month.:money:
But because I put everything on it, there are frequent times when something has to be returned for a refund, albeit small amounts.
So far, I’ve had “Transaction Declined” at Asda, Debenhams, In Store and recently, B & Q.
The SA in B & Q said, “Oh, that’s a M & S & More Mastercard isn’t it? My sister has exactly the same problem with hers!!”
I have phoned M & S Money, they say there’s nothing wrong with my card/account/pin/their system.
So I’m accumulating “Credit Notes” for all these places, when I’d rather have a credit on my card.
Any ideas why this is happening?
Is it something to do with Mastercard, as I’ve never had this problem with any Visa’s I’ve had previously.
Thanks
VC

where i work if this happens [rarely] the manager can ring the card service [number usually comes up on the machine] and refund back on to the card it does take a while to complete but it can be done . dont be fobbed off insist it is sorted there and then. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. When I shop at Sainsbury's they often refund me in cash. But those are usually because of the cashier's error, like swiping an item twice. A good way to get cash advance! (though it's a very very small amount

I have the same issue with an Egg Money Mastercard that is Chip and Sig.
I have found that if they type the number in, instead of swiping it, it normally works for the refund, ask them to try typing the number in next time, and see if it works.
Also, if it doesn't work, insist they refund cash not a credit note!! (It is not your fault their system is badly designed)

Thanks for the replies; I'll ask them to key in the number in future!
The cynic in me thinks that the stores whose systems "decline" the refunds are actually trying to make sure you spend the transaction amount with them, hence the credit notes!
Strangely, all the declined credit amounts were under £20, but in other stores, refunds of more than this have gone through without a problem.

I wasn't sure what youe talking about at first, but from the replies of other I think I know.
I work in retail, and we cannot do refunds onto customers cards (our system does not allow it). In these cases, we are suppose to do a manual credit card refund - which is basically one of those manual papers that they imprint with your card, but credit note is written across the top (for the card types that don't have dedicated 'refund slips'), and then we have to send it off the 'bank' and then the customer's account is credited, probably 2/3 days after we send it.
To be honest this is more hassle than it is worth (because of our pathetic procedures) that 9/10x I just refund in cash !0
