Exciting Suggestions Required!

We want to take the kids away (not all of them, only the eldest 2 , 11 and 14) and we want to go somewhere exciting, adventurous and amazing.

Ice Hotel is out, wont go to USA and far east/Australia is too far.

After a really bad year, we are going to treat them, but it can't be too expensive - I've come up with a stay in a castle in scotland with medieval banquets, or boating but the kids wouldn't like a boat!

Cant ask them, its a surprise.

It doesn't have to be out of the UK either, but it does need to be very different and something that they are not likely to ever do again.

Any suggestions???

How about Portugal? - I am not sure if thats what you are looking for exactly but when I was there last year we went to a water park that had a facility for children to swim with dolphins. This was in the Algarve - plus you have got the big football stadium. There is real friendly family atmosphere arpund the Algarve with loads of water sports, etc.

Or how about a little European cruise?

OR just a road trip around Europe - I will never forget our family trips around Italy - Lake Garda especially. The drive there was the best bit. We stopped off in Belguim and Switzerland - It was fab.

Another great holiday we had was hiring a boat on the Norfolk broads. That was a great holiday.

I am not sure if this helps or not.

My first thought was Hong Kong, as that blew my socks off the first time I went.

Prague is great if you like wandering around, admiring the buildings, Charles Bridge is plain amazing. Budapest very similar.

I just come back from a week in Salou, Spain with my children we loved the big theme park there Port adventura.

It really depends on what you would think your children would like to do the most, some like to chill out and admire the scenery, some like to be at theme parks???

What do yours like to do??

    Hope this helps.

How about EuroDisney? Just thought with their ages they would get a lot out of it, staying either in Paris itself or camping nearby - or even a Youth Hostel, many of these now have family rooms. Renting a flat in Paris is usually more economical than staying in a hotel (and practical with kids because occasionally cooking for yourselves will keep costs down) we did this at Christmas and had a great time. There is always loads to do in Paris.

We are particularly keen on Belgium too... & Luxembourg is stunning and in very easy reach of Germany.

Or if you stay in the UK how about staying in a Lighthouse? Or converted Police Station (there's one in Derbyshire) or something like that? London is also very exciting for kids - but it really depends what they like doing.

Take them to the Candian Rockies around Jasper and Banff. It is great.

If you hire a car you can also take in Vancouver, Whistler and Calgary.

sticking with the scotland theme , what about staying in a lighthouse on the orkneys- certainly an adventure and something not likely to be repeated, if you or the kids are interested in the great outdoors seals, dolphins, birds and porpoises can all be found here , this could be well worthwhile
The lighthouse was designed by the author robert louis stevensons father.
