Laura, that looks lovely! It's so good to see someone with their own individual style; you always look so nice!7

I have always admired Ms. Hanff's ability to educate herself by reading the original of everything, and writing so humorously, so if you are she, please may I have your autograph?
Nope, not it.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go see if BritBox (BBC's US app) has Full Steam Ahead...2023 Fashion on the Ration: Start with 66. Nightdress - 6 = 60 remaining.9 -
Sadness. No such luck. The only thing searching for Ruth Goodman brings up is a show called Coast that looks to have nothing to do with her (I'm guessing she's probably a guest in one of the episodes). I'll have to check the other services.
Or...it could be on YouTube for free:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5cqWZZUioQ&list=PLltivhgN97V3pA599vy_pzuq32ESnZGZh

@Laura_Elsewhere - that petticoat looks amazing. Love the story about the "mink" stole and your gran.SezzaF said:Hello all
Hope you don't mind me joining in. I've been sitting in the corner of the hall for a while admiring all your makes and trying to see if I can break my dreadful black market habit and stick to my coupons. So far it's going well!
I had to pipe up today because I once had to stop the trains on a line that had been blocked and I did bemoan my lack of red flannel petticoat!
Hello @SezzaF. Do join in with our chatter, please, and tell us all about the above train incident! Cup of tea? Piece of cake?

Welcome!2023 Fashion on the Ration: Start with 66. Nightdress - 6 = 60 remaining.8 -
Thank you for the welcome and some cake would be lovely. I am an oddbod though who doesn't drink tea or coffee! I may have to acquire a can or two of soda from our friends up on the base
My adventure with stopping the trains is almost as exciting as it sounds. We were walking the dog along a footpath through some woods one weekend afternoon when we heard a strange noise. It was almost like the crack of a gunshot but not quite. We couldn't see what had made the noise so walked on. About 100 yards later, the footpath crossed the railway line and as we crossed, I looked down the rails and saw a tree, yes, a whole tree, had fallen right across the line. As I didn't have my red flannel petticoats on at the time, I did the next best thing and pulled out my mobile phone. All I could think was to call 999 which I did. We were able to tell the call handler which line we were on and she was able to get British Rail (or the local equivalent) to stop the trains. The rail lines curved and it was the trunk of the tree that was across them so would have been almost impossible for the train driver to see and stop in time. We hung around for a bit but then had to carry on. A friend checked the timetable and there was a train due along the line about 15 minutes after we had called so, even though it was just a branch line, it could have been quite nasty!2020 Fashion on the Ration: Starting in January with 66 coupons. 37/66 remaining.12 -
A branch line, @SezzaF? A whole tree line, surely?!
Gosh, that sounds absolutely like you saved lives by your quick thinking - well done!

Laura - love the pop of red. My husband has a tendency to put on a ton of layers when we go walking, living in Yorkshire we can't go far before we encounter a hill so it's not long before he is complaining of being boiling either because we have gone downhill and it is warmer or we are battling uphill.

Love your petticoats, Laura! Red petticoats always remind me of The Railway Children’. It’s one of my favourite Films and I cry every time at the ‘Daddy, it’s my Daddy’ bit!Stash busting challenge 2025: 0/100 £0/£100 Fashion on the ration 2025: 0/669
