Sorry to hear it, @prepareathome. If you don't mind me asking, was it due to arthritis? If so, you may find one of the other styles of knitting do-able. Have a look at YouTube for videos of the Portuguese style - that uses a pin or alternatively putting the yarn behind your neck to tension the yarn, so you only have to hold the needles, not move your fingers.

I have a lot of sympathy, still remembering when my spine fused in my late 30s, partially paralysing both arms, and for quite a while nobody knew how it would go - thankfully, after a year when the physios glumly signed me off saying they could do nothing, Dad lost patience and sent me to the brilliant sports-physio clinic who sorted me out in under three months, and there are very few things I can't now do - but I doubt I'll ever remember what it was like initially...
On a more cheerful note, you may have been wondering what's happening about that "we hope probably in October" marrying I mentioned...?
Well, we still don't have a date - being middle-aged means a lot of things need to be sorted out and settled, ideally before marrying, and infuriatingly the papers drawn up in early June are STILL not signed. Once they are finally signed, we can then give notice and book a date, which has to be at least 4 weeks after, so realistically, we're probably into January which is when My Intended starts his radiotherapy for six weeks, so...!
It's a teensy bit frustrating - the Other Party is completely willing to sign the papers but the legal approval of the short document is bizarrely taking months. It took over two months and multiple emails for our end to get legal approval, so...
Anyway, such is life and worst things happen at sea! If a delay of a few more months is the worst thing that happens to us, given the last few years, we'll be quite content.2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

@Laura_Elsewhere - When you two can finally get married, we'll deck the Village Hall out. I promise. Sounds like an April wedding is on the cards.

Re radiotherapy... My last nursing job was in the radiotherapy department. It can be surprisingly exhausting for the patient. People think that, because it is non-invasive, it won't impact their daily lives. But it does, because the body needs the energy, nutrients and time to heal from the radiation. On the plus side, it usually doesn't hurt, although some people will have a skin reaction similar to sunburn. Your intended is lucky that he has you to look after him, particularly with your attention to detail.

@PipneyJane - I hope earlier than April, but who knows?!
And if needs be, come the new year, I shall pester you to pop that hat back onThankfully, no side-effects whatsoever of any kind yet - he tried to claim tiredness but I pointed out he is ALWAYS impossible to wake in the mornings and he's not too tired to do lots of other things; it's only getting up for a Morning Mile walk that he's "too tired" for
(joking aside, he really hasn't got any changes).
I'm awfy glad I had both smear and mammogram done earlier this year with all-clears, so at least I know I'm fit to look after him!2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

‘Scuse me, Miss - you need to read the small print! If you look at the facsimile document on the first post, listing the coupons, there’s a section saying ‘these goods may be bought without coupons’. It clearly lists there “hats or caps”.
I assume that they would have taken very little material, and perhaps for women hats were an important morale boost. Also, those men and women who work in one of the services would have had uniform caps or headgear.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Just counted my coupons.I don't have a big wardrobe and most of it is five or six years old (or more), so it all pretty tired or just plain worn out.So far in 2021 I have used...Wool dress 11 (from Wool&Co - I'm on day 21 of the 100 day Dress Challenge).Underwear (5 pairs) 10Ankle socks (5 pairs) 5Leggings (2 pairs) 4Birkenstock sandals 5That's 35 of my 66 used up!I'm already thinking about 2022.If you have coupons left at the end of the year, can you roll them over? I don't want to "spend" them just for the sake of it.I'm hoping to lose a few kilos, so the things I have now may not fit next year either, but I'm not ready or able to try smaller sizes yet.2023 Fashion on the Ration

@borscht, yes, we'll be doing the challenge next year. However, we'll stay in our virtual 1942 - the number of coupons decreased in 1943and we don't want that. Any unspent coupons can be rolled over to next year.

@borscht - as you are aiming to lose some more weight can I suggest to don't use your coupons to buy any more new clothes for the time being and just check out the charity shops? If you're continuing to lose weight you don't want to be wasting any of your valuable coupons and second hand are coupon free. When you have finished with them you could resonate them back to the charity shop.11

I am not planning a big splurge to replace the contents of my wardrobe but I am using the time to look for manufacturers and suppliers whose ethos I am happy with. So when the time is right the job should be easier.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent
