Two very different, and both oh-so-effective pieces of creativity! Well done both of you.
My latest piece of creativity sadly needs some undoing: no idea how I got the increase row on this jumper 6 stitches too long but I did. When I did it first time round (this being a repeat) it all did exactly as it was supposed to do...
P.S. @CAFCGirl, if some mad woman you don't know waves at you in the street, it will be me recognising your top but it's okay 'cos I usually go round in a world of my own so I'm far more likely to wander straight past.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

@Laura_Elsewhere beautiful crochet.
@CAFCGirl - I love the tank top.
@Cherryfudge - I know the feeling. Sometimes I end up counting-and-recounting my stitches like mad and muttering under my breath as I do so.
My latest project has a 24 stitch repeat which is repeated 20 times. I've stuck stitch markers between every single repeat. It's a tunic-length jumper in woollen-spun worsted-weight ("10-ply") wool that I brought back from Australia in 2013. Far too hot and sticky to knit on last week. I had to recalculate everything because a) the pattern wasn't written for my size and b) nor was it written for this weight of yarn. (It was written for DK held double and 6mm needles.) I've only done about an inch...

@PipneyJane, not a challenge then
, seriously I am in awe of your skills.
@Laura_Elsewhere and CAFCGirl love both those tops.
I have now finished work and although officially I don't retire until 31st August I am now on holiday yay. I am hoping to get cracking with some things I just didn't have the time or energy for after I have caught my breath.
Take care everyone9 -
Hi Ladies
Congratulations on your retirement @Liverpool_Anne! They will miss you.
Here is the original photo of my newest project. This is the one from the magazine, the Australian Women's Weekly, Best Ever Knitting Book from 1978.
I've only done 2 inches so far and I'm knitting it in the round, rather than flat, unlike the original.
Apologies if I've been a bit distant this month. I'm not certain where the time is going at present.

@Liverpool_Anne, congratulations on retiring - a friend some years back had the same situation, where the last weeks of "work" wee using up leave entitlement - what she did was to continue setting the alarm for the time she had to get up for work, for the leave-weeks, just so that she could absolutely revel in waking to the alarm, *not* getting up, *not* going to work, but *still* being paid full whack! If you do that, I hope you have atl east a few mornings where it's filthy weather so you can wallow in not having to go out into it, or hot sunny glorious weather so you can enjoy not being stuck at work during it!
An excellent time to look through all the Holiday At Home leaflets the Ministry of Information put out earlier in the war!2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

Congratulations on retirement @Liverpool_Anne. I guarantee that within a few weeks you will be saying the words I always promised I wouldn’t say, “I don’t know how I found time to go to work”! I do still work part time, but oh my goodness it’s so lovely not to have to go out every day.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.8

I was absolutely exhausted the first few weeks after DH retired. He was so hyper! It was as if he was on annual leave and driven to get things done before going back to work. It took a while to relax into it.
Fast forward a few years - we don't get going that early these days and everything takes ages to do. How DID we find the energy, let alone the time, to achieve what we did when we were working?It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!7 -
@Liverpool_Anne, happy retirement! I understand from some retired friends that you will soon wonder how you ever found time to go to work!
@Laura_Elsewhere, great description.
@PipneyJane, that's an awesome project! Are you doing it in a similar colour?
As for me and my WIP, I re-did the increase row and it's still wrong so I can only conclude I've gone astray in the ribbing somewhere, not that it looks wrong in the slightest, but that could be my inexperienced eye. I'm shattered after four days working on my parent's old house so I'm not going to attempt to solve it tonight.
I have made further discoveries including what looks like a wartime memoir called 'We get by' or something along those lines. I came back by train so I didn't manage to bring it with me on this trip. I did, however, find The Strand Magazine from the first Christmas of the war, and a magazine called 'Good Needlework and Knitting Magazine' from May 1939. There's a lot of embroidery in it, and some pretty knitting. It's in good shape considering how old it is!I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
