We’re always pleased to see visitors in the Much Mending Village Hall.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.8

@Bigjenny thank you for the link, it was very interesting, if I come across 1 I will know what to do with it.
I made a redicut rug for my bedroom when I was a child, a blue and white geometric design of my own. I have no idea what happened to it.8 -
Thank you, I will pop in for a cuppa next time I visit.I bought a redicut rug kit too when I got engaged, started it, then got put in cupboard, my mum finished it years later."When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us" Alexander Graham Bell9

@Cherryfudge, I took a good look at the fabric in DH’s shirt, in daylight, and decided that there was too much wear, so the fabric wasn’t worth rescuing.

I knit mostly, baby clothes now, just finishing a baby dress, next I will be making some premature things for a local charity.I used to make my own clothes many years ago, but use the machine mainly for repairs or alterations now. I have a couple of nice patterns so might think about buying some material."When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us" Alexander Graham Bell7

I've finished my dress, just in time! We're going out with friends tonight to celebrate reopening. I had a crisis of confidence over it because I made a muslin in old curtain lining which is quite firmly woven cotton. The fit seemed pretty good so I went ahead and cut out the dress in ponte - it's a plain sheath dress with three quarter sleeves. I needed something that could be smart or not too dressy depending on the occasion and this seemed just right. But it was huuuge in the ponte even though it wasn't a very stretchy one. Fortunately I was able to alter it and it looks ok now.
I say I've finished it, I've still got to sew the lining to the zip tape on one side. Better get a shift on!
So a coupon spend of 2 for the lining since the ponte was in stash.
I think I might have my sewjo back. Next up I want to perfect a shirt pattern. The combination of very narrow shoulders and a substantial 'superstructure' means I can never buy a ready made that fits. They talk about apple and pear shapes - I'm an egg on legs! But if I can get this right I've got a lovely length of bright pink silk I bought in Bangkok a couple of years ago back when the world was open. That would be very useful for such sedate evening socialising as we are likely to do going forwardIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!7 -
Well done @maryb, it's a good feeling completing something! I still have a lot to learn about sewing but it sounds as though you've been able to think on your feet and make the fabric do what it needs to despite it being quite a big job. I hope you have a lovely evening with your friends.
The pink silk sounds wonderful.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I've been busy too - it's not the most flattering skirt, but then at 230lbs, nothing much is flattering! But it IS comfortable, very practical, easy to slip into of a morning, and My Intended is hugely pleased as this green linen skirt is to replace two old skirts which I've always worn a lot as they're very comfortable but they do look frumpy. And even if this doesn't make me look willowy (!), it is definitely less frumpy than the two it's replacing!
In retirement: the black linen skirt will become a pair of shorts to wear under this skirt and the dark blue synthetic twill will be dismantled and pressed and put in my "linings" box as it's big enough pieces to be useful; the hem I turned up with some pretty flowered tape so I shall retrieve that as well.
This is the first Replacement Part of my Trousseau, the long plan being to end up with fewer clothes but better ones...
