My logic, @L@Laura_Elsewhere, was entirely based on the fact that you have been involved in reenactments and I thought someone might have demonstrated using it on the sidelines.Laura_Elsewhere said:I m flattered that @PipneyJane thinks I might know but I can safely say I have never seen one of them in my life before, @Cherryfudge!

@TwibbleDee - I loved your story re Queen Victoria and the cattle. It was very kind of her. Imagine having those letters in your family archive!
I’m off to the FA Cup Final this afternoon. If you see a woman knitting on a sock in the top tier at Wembley, that’d be me. I am still amazed that we got tickets, since we are in the last bracket of season ticket holders to be allowed to buy them. (We had the lowest level of loyalty points because we only go to matches included in our season ticket.)

Good morning all. I have finally started the shawl, the wool arrived a couple of weeks ago but I was too busy to get started until last night. I had ordered some needles with it so I was quite excited to get going. It is an easy pattern if you take the time to read it properly.....I did read it but my brain converted it into something different lol. I had to undo the first 10 rows twice! Also I found the needles too long to work with comfortably. Eventually I had a hunt through my needles inherited from my Mum and found a pair of circulars in the right size, still in the packet and managed to read and inwardly digest the pattern and get it started properly. In my defence, after getting fed up with myself, I realised I am 2 weeks away from my B12 jab and feeling very tired, now I can account for the lack of brain power I feel much happier. Have a good day everyone.6

@Cherryfudge, that tool looks very interesting. I would love to know how you would use it. I imagine the thread goes through the ring and the space on the needle, like on a sewing machine and you push it through the Hessian and somehow form a small loop underneath. I wonder what kept it in place? If I get the time I will have a hunt for some information about it.6

I would have no idea how to use that, but glad you identified what it is!
I just wanted to say another huge thank you to Laura for suggesting the place to buy dresses for my 99-year-old friend. I ordered one as a trial, fully expecting her to reject it, but the carer has contacted me to say that she loved it and please can I get another! I note they also do cardigans, vests, and similar things which I’ve had difficulty finding since British Home Stores closed, i’m so pleased as her wardrobe definitely needs an upgrade.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.7 -
@PollyWollyDoodle - Oh, I am pleased! I have to say, had it not been polyester I'd have bought that dress for myself, quite pleasant it was...2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

Okay so I bought it, together with its friend. The two clearly belonged together. There is a tiny notch in the protruding metal ‘tongue’ suggesting the wool has rubbed over it, but no corresponding groove in the wood. I'm somewhat familiar with latch hooks for rug making but this remains a mystery!
