The ‘Lyscordet’ is, I’m guessing, a more recent and probably finer relative of the ‘Lyscord’ that was the original yarn for the string bag. I resisted buying their entire stock as I’d never make anything else but bags - but I couldn’t not buy some after all the effort I’ve put in trying to find something appropriate for them. I’m guessing the gauge would have resulted in a smaller, less stretchy bag.
(and next time, I should think of looking in my stores!)
If anyone wants me to check if the shop still has some in stock, of course I will! They only had this natural colour, nothing else, but I think charity shop may have benefitted from a few house clearances recently () so I'm keeping my eyes open. I have been tempted by an old sock pattern I saw in the same shop and which looked within my skill range or not far outside it, so I might yet meander back.

@Laura_Elsewhere, re-reading your post, is yours Lyscord or Lyscordet? It's the latter I have but if you could post a picture of the Lyscord as per the early version of The Bag, it would give me a clearer idea of what was intended.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

That Little Dorritt sock looks familiar..... I'm not certain I have any in the stash - or whereabouts it would be - but it does look really familiar. Something I found in a charity shop back when I worked in Reading...

That Little Dorritt yarn might have looked familiar but it isn't the stuff I have in the stash. What I have is Wendy DK "nylonised" (90% wool, 10% nylon). They're the same shade of grey. I have 50g, so I might just be able to get a pair of socks out it.
Incidentally - and totally off topic - a couple of weeks ago, when I stopped at the yarn stall in Uxbridge, I overheard the owner telling a customer that Wendy had ceased trading. Just did a quick Google and it happened a year ago. The firm, Thomas B Ramsden & Co (Bradford) Limited, that owns Wendy, Robin, Twilleys of Stamford and a couple of other brands, went into Administration on 14th April 2020. Sad.

I don’t know if this is a ‘thing’, but I really need an app whereby I can scan in random balls of unbanded yarn and find out what I’ve got. 😆 (Akin to apps that let you scan plants to identify them. As those also tell you what said plant is sickening with, perhaps the ‘fixing’ factor in the yarn app would helpfully give me suitable patterns or, if it’s very grounded and sensible, come up with a personalised message along the lines of ‘Now Cherry, you know you don’t need that, put it back where you found it.’)
This is today’s find. Charity shop so no coupons but a little over 100g worth. It’s quite a light weight and would, I think, lend itself to some fairly mad gloves.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

You can always test to see if it is acrylic by snipping off a 4-inch length and attempting to burn the end. If it burns fast, it's cotton. If it melts, it's plastic. (I do this over the sink.)

@Cherryfudge, I think I would be tempted to make some sort of hat with that just to show off the colours6

@PipneyJane, thanks for that tip, I had fun trying it! I think I need to rerun the trial with samples of known cotton and acrylic because at the moment I'm undecided. The colours are very 'modern' though so I suspect acrylic, even if it doesn't feel quite right. However, there's no ball band so I've got no further identifying it. It had been hand-wound to about the consistency of a tennis ball and out of pity for it I've rewound it so it can breathe... and there's more than I realised.
@Liverpool_Anne, you are right that the colours need to be shown off. Having rewound it, it feels as though it would make enough gloves for a family or several hats, but sadly the colours are wrong for me, however glorious they are. My latest thought is a lacy throw or shawl, the sort that takes ages and gets crocheted on journeys in increasingly-large carrier bags as it nears completion.
I somehow found time to revisit the charity shop where I bought the Lyscordet (they have 2 or 3 balls left, but no, I didn't) in the search for a bit of dull pink wool to make the features on a cat I'm knitting (as one does). I came away with two patterns and some tapestry wool which the assistant threw in with the patterns as we couldn't find the price of one of them. I thought the tapestry wool was modern (I know nothing about it) but closer inspection says 100% wool, '15 yards (13.7 metres)' and 'mothproof', so the jury is out on how long it's been waiting for me.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living.
