For some reason, my gait seems to befuddle the places that try to analyze it. Barefoot shoes is what I'll be looking into - some of them even make hiking boots now! I do have a pair of Merrell hiking boots, but I very rarely wear them as they have proper stiff soles that I can't feel things shift under. I grew up being told I had to wear orthotics and specially made shoes all the time, and did best balancing when I wore no shoes at all. I've decided I'm going to ignore the doctors and such, because it can't be best to wear shoes that make my feet hurt and unbalance me. Mom insists that my feet are going to hurt later on, but she tells me that no matter what shoes I wear and given the number of foot surgeries she's had, I'm in no hurry to go the same route that she did.Laura_Elsewhere said:I would second going and having your gait analysed by a specialist place - and definitely don't buy off-the-peg hiking sandals - I've known a few people with big-name "hiking sandals" which have fallen apart miles away from help, in one case causing a bad fall that wrenched a knee, causing a very slow and panful hobble back to base.
You could investigate the 'barefoot' running shoes - they do some for off-road cross-country running that might be just the job, as they are designed not to alter your foot's natural barefoot gait. A friend swears by hers for track running, says they're the best thing she's ever worn.2023 Fashion on the Ration: Start with 66. Nightdress - 6 = 60 remaining.8 -
Oh, and I did another bad thing today...
..the health coaching program I've been planning to start in September is doing a deal where it's $0 for 60 days, then monthly payments after that. And I fell for it. More fun to keep me busy!2023 Fashion on the Ration: Start with 66. Nightdress - 6 = 60 remaining.9 -
Well, there must have been a severe bombing raid on Monday near here, as a disused industrial site is still smouldering and we only have intermittent water in our taps - very 1942!
(a bankrupt plastics-recycling site 1/2-mile away went up on Monday; all under control by evening, very impressive work, and didn't even shut the adjacent motorway (!) - but fire services expect to be on site for 7-10 days, and we have either a low-pressure trickle or nothing at all from our taps, which makes life interesting! So we have buckets full of water in the bath for essential flushing of toilet, and bowls in bathroom basin and kitchen sink for hand-washing, and a couple of bottles in the fridge for drinking, and I've managed the washing-up in several stints this morning but am postponing planned baking! )

Why does this sound like an insurance job, to me?Laura_Elsewhere said:Well, there must have been a severe bombing raid on Monday near here, as a disused industrial site is still smouldering and we only have intermittent water in our taps - very 1942!

@Cherryfudge - I'm a pillock! I sorted my crochet thread box yesterday and discovered I actually have some Lyscordet - I do also have plans for it (undies-lace) so am not quite kind enough to donate it all to you but I'd be happy to send you a sample of it, in pale blue and in apricot, so you can see exactly what it's like!Cherryfudge said:May I just show off today’s haul? All coupon-free as they were in charity shops: two are 4-ply so one day I might finally make a sock or two.
The ‘Lyscordet’ is, I’m guessing, a more recent and probably finer relative of the ‘Lyscord’ that was the original yarn for the string bag. I resisted buying their entire stock as I’d never make anything else but bags - but I couldn’t not buy some after all the effort I’ve put in trying to find something appropriate for them. I’m guessing the gauge would have resulted in a smaller, less stretchy bag.
(and next time, I should think of looking in my stores!)2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

Oh, everyone locally is reckoning exactly this - it's hardly going to have been "just kids mucking about" when the site is behind 15-foot steel fences with triple-barbed-wire along the top, is it?!PipneyJane said:

The company went bust2-3 years back, and some of the materials have been moved, very occasionally people and vehicles are in there, but basically it's obviously going to be a very expensive job clearing it all out and sorting the baled plastics and so on...very *convenient* is the basic opinion locally...!2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

That Little Dorritt sock looks familiar..... I'm not certain I have any in the stash - or whereabouts it would be - but it does look really familiar. Something I found in a charity shop back when I worked in Reading...
