Extending near underground electrical cables

Options
Hi, we have been wondering if we should extend our house, but we have some underground electrical cables on the edge of our boundary, which leads to a substation.
I was just wondering if anyone had ever extended near underground cables and if there was a certain distance you had to be away from them, any difficulties etc?
Many thanks for any help and advice!

on the edge of your boundary, inside or outside of the boundary?
how do you know they are there?
  • Hi, thanks for the reply. Sorry, on the inside of the boundary. When we bought the house we were told.

It will probably be like having shared or public water pipes/drain runs close to your property, where you'd need an agreement with the utility provider to build, and then have to take particular precautions not to injure or put strain on the cabling.
Contact the provider in your area and they will advise.
  • Many thanks Dave, I will give them a ring
