UC - when is it paid?

May have to apply to UC in the near future because of potential redundancies at work.
Just wondering, I know it's monthly but which day in the month is it paid? i.e. do you choose a date or does it go by when the claim is processed etc?

It depends on the day you apply. You should not apply until you are confident your last wages / holiday pay etc have been paid. First payment will then be one calender month and seven days later, so approximately 5 weeks. Everyone's payment date is different. Your assessment period starts the day you apply online and end one month later  your Uc payment will be paid seven days after the last day of your assessment period.

Whether you'll qualify will depend on your circumstances. If you live with a partner, you claim as a couple. Savings/capital of more than £16,000 will exclude you from claiming. If the worst does happen then use a benefits calculator to check entitlement.
New Style JSA may also be possible if you've paid the correct amount of NI contributions in the previous 2 tax years. Although if you claim them both then the NsJSA will be deducted in full from any UC entitlement. NsJSA is paid for 26 weeks.
