Unexpected but short term wad of cash....

Looking for some advice... we were gazumped on Christmas Eve (insert expletives) but hadn’t yet exchanged on our house sale.
We’ve decided to go through with our sale and not treat our purchasers like we have been treated (bit bitter...).
We are going to move into a rented house for a while and keep looking for a new property, but reckon it could be 6-12months before we are home owners again.
After advice on how we should deal with the proceeds of our house sale. We want the money to work for us a bit but also be accessible! So far all I’ve thought it both of us max out on Premium Bonds...
any advice gratefully received
