John Lewis Christmas present with gift receipt - can I return it to a Waitrose?

I got a men’s hat for Christmas that would barely fit a child. Luckily I have a gift receipt but all Scottish John Lewis stores are currently closed. Can I return it for a gift card to a Waitrose?

If it was bought in store you'll have to wait until the shops open. You have 35 days after the shop opens to take it back.0

So I can’t just take it to a Waitrose that is part of the same company and is open?0

Why don't you ask them? They'll perhaps have a more informed answer than any of us.kaggi said:So I can’t just take it to a Waitrose that is part of the same company and is open?

Technically they are separate companieskaggi said:So I can’t just take it to a Waitrose that is part of the same company and is open?
the arrangement to click and collect and returns via their stores are for online purchases. As stated above you can return to the store when they open again. You could try ringing the JL customer services line as they may have new arrangements in place now stores are closed.

Why, when someone answers your question, would you just re-phrase it and ask them again?kaggi said:So I can’t just take it to a Waitrose that is part of the same company and is open?5 -
Two separate shops, two separate policies and procedures, two separate returns facilities.0

Because some people only want the answer they want to hear. Someone should have just said yes and the OP could have had a wasted journey (but been happier on the forums).Supersonos said:

They're owned by the same parent company - that doesn't make them the same company.

You can only return items ordered through Click & Collect and collected from Waitrose. If an item was purchased in store, it needs to be returned to store.
John Lewis & Waitrose are owned by the John Lewis Partnership, however they’re very much separate companies.0
