    Thanks for the comments, duly noted for the future. I had only used PayPal previously for my sons gaming purchases, eBay and to people I know. It was my idea to use PayPal, thinking (but obviously not enough) it would be safer. I clearly didn’t research enough, and now realise my mistake. I won’t make the same mistake again. 
    PayPal is fine, I use it all the time across various sites your issue was that you chose the gift option rather than paying for goods. If buying with PayPal make sure you use the goods service and make sure the goods are named in as much detail as you can. So for instance you are buying a Michael Kors bag on Facebook, just make sure your payment shows that is what you are buying, don’t just out ‘bag’ . 

    If you are just sending money as a gift to someone you know then friends and family is just as it says a gift for a friend or family member.
