Switching and cooling off
Options
Hello, and merry Christmas.
My existing gas tariff expires in early January and I recently arranged a move away to British Gas Evolve - welcome email received on 15 December. Over Christmas I had another look at a couple of comparison sites and there is a new tariff from Utility Point which would be much cheaper for me (about £50 a year cheaper than the British Gas Evolve tariff I'm scheduled to move to). As a consequence I've just applied to move to Utility Point before they withdraw the tariff. However I'm unsure what will happen given my gas is already in the process of moving to British Gas Evolve. I'm still in my cooling off period (14 days expire on 29 December) and they have told me I will be transferred on 1 January 2021. Am I best off just letting that transfer take its natural course and then the move to UP will occur automatically a couple of weeks later, or should I try and abort the British Gas Evolve transfer now?
Re cooling off period, I'm not actually sure how to enforce this in practice. Due to the holiday season their customer services are closed and uncontactable until Tuesday which is when the cooling off period expires. Same applies to their webchat service. They do have an email address but that is unlikely to be picked up for a few days either...
Thanks for any help you are able to give

If I had a pound for every time I didn't play the lottery...
