This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning folks. That wind and rain yesterday was biblical, so many places are flooded. The delayed Christmas meal was really good. Perhaps the roasties could have been a bit browner but they tasted delicious and the venison was tender. It's the post-eating clear up which is the bad part. Thank goodness for the DW which took almost everything apart from the good cutlery, some old glasses and the pudding dishes. To my horror I broke one of the old glasses which my grandmother had saved during the war, surprisingly DM took the destruction in her stride. 🥰 I had bought some star shaped crackers which we pulled, they had great gifts and jokes and we wore the hats all evening!
After the meal I left the other two to chat and do the crossword until it was time to watch University Challenge together. Today I intend to be lazy, don't think the outside is very inviting and there's no need to go shopping. My thoughts go out to all. Happy Sunday.14 -
Morning
Boxing Day is my favourite day – leftovers, mince pies, chocolate, festive films. I try to recreate it the next day but it's never quite the same, I'll give it a good go though!
The wind and rain last night was awful, I was sure there would be damage but everything seems intact. The chicken run was puddly, I swept the water to the sides so it can drain off.
As above, more picky food today. I've just eaten a banana and will put pickled beetroot and onions on my plate later, that way I can pretend to have eaten healthily, lol.

I'm not sure if Storm Bella has been and gone during the night or if it's still making it's way down to us. Anyway, we are planning to do the Railway Walk today, along a pathway that was one of the Beeching cutbacks in the 1960s. When we've had enough we will just turn around and walk back home!
I shall make tomato soup for tonight, from a new recipe I found online, so I hope it comes out ok. Other than that I shall have my feet up watching the rugby on tv this afternoon.
Have a good day everyone.13 -

We had a lovely day yesterday just the three of us at home, we had invited mum but she phoned and said would I mind if she didn't come as she was all warm and cosy at home and did not want to come out, I made her up a dinner of cold meat mash and peas and OH run it round to her along with a pudding, she loved it, we lit the fire as it was a terrible day and I just rested as I was shattered from Christmas day, OH and DD took the pups out and got soaked to the skin and were freezing when they got home so im quite glad I stayed in.
The news from my brother is not good im afraid, he phoned my sister and I xmas eve and explained what the hospital had said to him, he has about three months to live, they have said that they could elongate this by doing months and months of chemo but it would make him so ill that he would not have any quality time, he has four grown boys with his ex partner and wants to spend as much time as he can with them which is completly understandable, he went 'home' xmas day and is still there for now, my mum does not know this yet as he wants to tell her after Xmas, this will devestate my mum as it has all of us, but he is her first born and he is the apple of her eye. Its been the absolutly worst year for all of us and I think will only get worse over the next few months.
Please take care of yourselves and hug those that you love xxxx15 -
Morning folks and thanks GERS for starting us off. I wish I could say I had slept in but sadly I didn't! I sort of get embroiled in neglected fiddly jobs, putting stuff away etc. RUBY I was so sorry to read the update on your DB. Your poor mum will understandably be absolutely devastated. Much love to you all.
We seemed to get the worst of the storm early evening. There was a loud banging and crashing out back but it was too dark to see what had happened. Come daylight I could see the bird table lying on the patio, minus it's roof! It can lay there for a warmer day! I could see various bins blown around too but no evidence of bad damage. I hope our friends further south got off as lightly as the wind was forecast much stronger for Wales and the south coast. We now have blooming snow to look forward to!!
I've caught up on a bit of washing, plus some hand washing, and that is now adorning the back (warmest) bedroom. I didn't think it would do much outside! I have quite a bit of gammon left so will carve some nice slices off that and have an assortment of veg with it. And I really must try and keep my hands off the remaining goodies and chocs for a day or two.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care one and all and stay safe, especially anybody in the path of the storm. x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"14 -

Thanks for the thread Gers and hugs to all those in need.
So sorry to hear your news Ruby.
It's bitterly cold here and very wet understood as the ground is waterlogged. No plans for today apart from cooking another roast dinner, beef this time.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.15 -

Morning all,Sorry to hear your news RR, my thoughts are with you and your family.Took the dog out earlier with DH, needless to say the park was flooded but not as bad as I've seen it.It's stopped raining now but hail on the window woke me.Shame about the glass Gers, still accidents will happen. A glass dish of my Gran's held our apple sauce on C Day, I still have a few things of hers that I treasure.Enjoyed our tea last night, leftovers, but now the surplus turkey has been frozen in gravy for an easy roast dinner another time, also some xmas pud. Got some steak out as a change for tonight and a lazy day on the cards. Hope your day is good x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. Good morning and thank you for starting us off Gers.
It is a bright, sunny morning after the storm the wind howled and woke me at 2.30 but I slept until 5, so not too bad. No damage, which surprised me.
Redruby I'm sorry to hear about your brother's diagnosis, what an awful time for your family.
We had a lazy day yesterday, leftovers at lunchtime (more today) and husband cooked in the denigrate. They had steaks of such humunous proportions that they only just fitted on the plates and I had a small piece of salmon and some salad. Today I'm making samosas. Have not started the chocolate treats so far.
Washed the kitchen floor this morning, that's it for house jobs.
Thinking of you all
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13 -
So sorry to read your update Rubes. You can only hope that he is able to spend his final months with you all. Your poor mum
Nothing much on the agenda today. I dragged out my electric carving knife to slice the turkey for the freezer. I forget how to use it every time its dragged out which is rare but it is good so I should use it more. I'll keep a bit back and have with pickles and sausage rolls today. Time to go back to relative normality tomorrow food wise. No more Baileys for lunch I guessHouse could do with good bottom (like me
) but that can wait till next week.
May indulge in a film this afternoon or possibly a new netflix series that's been recommended Bridgeton
Take care all and enjoy your sunday if you can x11
