Does new boiler make sense?

  • "Emergency boiler engineer been advised boiler fine but apparently radio thermostat device is missing."
Any reason not to replace the missing part and pay for a service? Didn't the boiler engineer suggest this? Do you need a radio thermostat for the boiler to work, would a wired thermostat work and be cheaper?
  • I'm not sure if nWilson knows exactly what is wrong with the boiler itself (if indeed anything is wrong with it).  Difficult for anyone to be sure without an on-site inspection by someone who knows what they are doing or are familiar with firing up a gas boiler manually.

It should even be possible to just wire the boiler to be permanently on at a low circuit temperature as an emergency measure until a new room stat is obtained.  Could then be switched off at the wall if required.
