Online purchase from EU out of warranty

Hi all, first time posting here so apologies if I make any faux pas!
I purchased a cycling power meter from a large German retailer online in 2017. It had a 24 month warranty and develop a hardware fault shortly after the warranty period ended. I queried the fault with the site I purchased from, and they referred me to the manufacturer. I've since sent the unit back to the manufacturer (based in Italy) and they've offered to replace it for pretty much RRP. Whilst the product was out of warranty, I hadn't used it extensively and it has failed far earlier than I (or hopefully anyone reasonable) would expect. I have tried to research what my rights might be but given the international nature of the whole affair it is quite difficult to actually know what applies. I would appreciate any advice on what steps if any I can take beyond simply sending an email to the manufacturer explaining that I am not impressed, that I wouldn't be recommending their product to friends, etc. etc. and seeing if they will budge on cost. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
P

They're replacing it so what exactly is the issue here?

If you bought from a German retailer then your legal rights are German. We mainly know about UK stuff here, so you may need to search elsewhere for a fuller answer.

" they've offered to replace it for pretty much RRP" i.e. not for free.

So it is out of warranty and the manufacturer is not accepting any liability .
You need to  investigate if you have any claim against the  German retailer.
