First Time Buyer - Help with utilities!
Options
This might be a silly question but I've just moved into a new flat and am in the process of taking over the electricity/gas. I am moving out of my mum's house and have used uswitch to go with e-on, however, they have asked for my previous address which would be my mum's house. Will it change my mum's tariff, as though she has moved house? Or will it know that I am now in my own flat, paying the utilities bill?
Just a bit confused, any help much appreciated!

You need to register with the existing supplier before you can switch to new providers. Also, make sure you read and take photos of the meter readings to give to the existing supplier.0

Forget the joining Eon thing for now, find out who the flat is currently with supplier wise, then find where the meters are, read them and phone up the supplier, tell you've moved in and tell them that the meters say. Get your own account set up with the existing provider first. You can find your gas supplier here:You can find your electricity supplier here:Then look at switching. If you don't do the initial setup you will experience further issues down the line.0

E.On are unlikely to be the cheapest. After you've registered with the incumbent supplier(s), start comparing with Citizens Advice and 'Switch with Which?' and remember that separate suppliers are probably cheaper.0

Good advice from all above. I would add, do take meter readings regularly, I was a bit OTT and took them every week, now once per month. Do then feed your monthly readings if/when asked to the supplier. Ok if you have smart meters then probably not required but for you own reference still record you usage each month. That way you know how much you are using and can pinpoint where savings can be made, if any. I've dodged the need for smart meters to tell me anything, managing quite wel without.1
