Start problems with automatic gear stick - in K12 Micra

I've been having problems starting the car as I need to jiggle the auto gear stick, when in park, to start the starter motor.
If I don't do this then the ignition key turns, but nothing happens.
Lately its been getting worse.
Sometimes the car does not start at all, and I have to keep jiggling the gear stick, while in Park, then it will start.
It seems the signal that the gear stick is in park is not being read.
Any clues on how to fix this?

Thank you

There's a switch that only allows the starter to operate in N or P, for safety reasons. That switch is either on the gearbox or the lever - sounds like it's on the way out. It may just need cleaning and adjusting, or it may need replacing. Labour is likely to be the majority of the cost, so it'll probably just be easiest to replace.

Take it to a garage.  They're quite good at fixing cars.

    Could be a DIY fix.
Have a look on YouTube for a how to video.
