Is it possible to make the car battery last 'forever'?

Under a car bonet is about the worst environment possible if you want a lead acid battery to last a long time. Very cold in winter, very hot on a run in summer. If the battery was kept in a temperature controlled environment they would last much longer.
We have had UPS battery banks that still gave over 80% after 25 years, but they were in air conditioned rooms.0 -
Is the boot the best location for the battery in most front engined vehicles? Less temperature variation (and more weight to the rear if that matters).
My current car, a five year old BMW Series1 has the battery in the boot. So did a BMW 3 series I had for about 14 years from 1996.
I can't remember where the battery was in the VW Golf I had between those two cars or in the Golf I had prior to 1996.A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".0
