How much should it cost for a garage to fit new brakes?

The cost will vary depending on which part of the country you're in as well. The cost of someone to fit them in a quiet village in Cornwall might be quite different to someone on the A406 North Circular in London. What made you purchase your own parts without having somewhere lined up to fit them? No doubt you'll be ok to pay the additional labour charges should they strip down your brakes and find that you've got the wrong pads?sumvision2027 said:Hi ordered front and rear brake pads and discs, wondering how much i should expect to pay for a garage to fit them for me? You need to find a small independent garage recommended by friends & family or with good reviews. Pop in and ask them in person. It will be easier if they are a good brand in a new box. See what they say. I worked full time and found my wife was very good at that sort of job. She would go in and say something like "my husband has given me this rubbish job of trying to find a garage to fit these brake somethings or other that I don't understand and can you do it?" I think she was more successful than I would have been.2

I purchased by own so that i could pick the exact part I wanted and made sure with the seller that the car parts are actually for my car, came out cheaper toocymruchris said:

Even when you check the parts are for your car - there will ALWAYS be anomalies. Having worked in a garage environment some years back, when the part should have been a dead cert - it more frequently than it should have been turned out not to be, meaning we had to return it, get the other one, and take longer completing the job. Just bear in mind that if you do turn up with the wrong part (although you think it's the right part - and your supplier thinks it's the right part) you'll likely pay more in labour to get the job completed.sumvision2027 said:

It's been a long time since I was supplied with the wrong parts. With these modern computers it seems much easier to get the right part. Never had a problem with Eurocarparts.0

Ours cost £150 give or take. I can't remember now.I supplied the discs and pads which i sourced at £90 for the lot off AutoVaux. I could've no doubt got them cheaper but then i wasn't looking for the cheapest sets of discs and pads i could find just like i wasn't looking for the dearest.I actually didn't intend to have the mechanic do them. I was going to do them with my brother. I bought them when the weather was decent but things kept coming up at the weekend and by the time either one of us had spare time the weather was just crap. I took a week off work and the weather was awful every single day so i said sod it and booked it in.0

I work for peugeot main dealer, and if we fitted your pads n discs front & rear labour would be between £200 and £300. if you supply your own parts, and when we get it on the ranp we need extra parts, then thats not our responsibilty. also if the parts turn out to be wrong, then thats not down to us. we very rarely fit anything but geniune parts.

Using a main dealer to do this would be crazy, many would say it would be crazy using a main dealer to do brakes at a main dealer even not supplying parts as the labour rates are obviously excessive for a non specialist job.clive0510 said:I work for peugeot main dealer, and if we fitted your pads n discs front & rear labour would be between £200 and £300. if you supply your own parts, and when we get it on the ranp we need extra parts, then thats not our responsibilty. also if the parts turn out to be wrong, then thats not down to us. we very rarely fit anything but geniune parts.0 -
I never understand main dealers. Why do they always have so many people sat around at desks doing nothing. I always ring the bell at the parts desk and nobody comes out. And all the people sat at their desks ignore me.0

I think they’re salesmen, Fred. They don’t work in the parts department.1
