No offence to the OP, but we live in sad times when there is a stampede to secure a rate of 0.5%.

None taken - I opened one in early December at the same time as opening the new Regular Saver (fortunate to have been a member for a while, although outside area). Amazingly 0.5% this is joint 3rd on the MSE Top Easy Access Savings accounts.2

It is exactly because of this sort of thing and in order to give savers at least some interest rate protection that I started my rather controversial (or so it turned out to be on this forum) thread a few weeks ago with its suggestion of a legal minimum interest rate of 0.5% AER for fixed rate accounts.0

Opened mine on Monday

I submitted my application at 4pm today precisely because, as others, have pointed out, the range of choices is so narrow. Add to this the fact that I am a EU citizen (no UK passport, so no Investec and many others who refuse to accept any other documents to prove residence) and a US citizen. Hoping they approve me, but i think there is a high chance other my EU or US citizenship will get in the way. Is there any way to make this kind of application with soft searches so as not to mess my very short credit history in the UK?
Edit: they emailed me the same day to confirm my account has been approved. How cool is this?0 -
I opened one earlier in the week and they had grief with my nominated account, which is odd as the same account was nominated for two other savings products on the same day. However, they reckon a pic of a letter from bskk current account will suffice.
And yep, all this for 0.5..but hey that's inflatio beating, and not much else is atm0 -
It's good that it looks like you will be able to get this account; 0.5% is not normally inflation beating though, indeed often nowhere near to being so, so inflation must still be very low historically speaking at the moment.0

On a typical "rainy day" pot of £5,000 the meagre £25 annual interest almost doesn't pay for the time, inconvenience and risk of opening an account. At these low rates, under the mattress is an equal contender for storage of my cash.

Not worth the faff. Hargreaves Lansdown Active Savings is good enough to save the shoeleather costs!0

Opened mine weeks ago but still waiting for the initial password. Have phoned once and they said they had a backlog. Phoned again yesterday but was on hold for ages and never managed to get through. Don't want to do a large online transferi if I can't check that the money is there. As Garmeg says HL Active Savings is a lot easier.0
