We moved into a house being supplied by SP a few weeks ago, I have never heard good things about them so was keen to move away, I immediately put in a transfer to another dual fuel provider through the energy club. I have since been bombarded with emails and calls pleading, near demanding that I stay. Nothing out of the ordinary however the first person I spoke to told me that as I have moved into a property supplied by SP I have to sign up for a 12 month fixed contract with them. Oh that's interesting, no I don't!!
They then proceeded to tell me that I still have to give them bank account details so they can set up a direct debit... Nope, not interested, don't trust you... Give me my final bill, and I shall be done with you.
Absolute bunch of cowboys

Did you register with SP on moving in as you where in a deemed contract with them , post reads as you did not . Deemed contract register with existing provider and then you are free to move .

It is worth pointing out to the OP and others that Deemed Contracts are not a Machiavellian plot brought in by suppliers as a making money exercise. Deemed Contracts were brought in by Government many years ago to ensure that there is continuity of supply when a home changes ownership. One risk of not engaging with the Deemed Supplier is that the switch will be blocked until such time as the required information is provided. The Deemed Supplier is entitled to be paid for all energy consumed until the transfer of supply goes through. I should add that even if the supply transfer does go through there have been cases where the Deemed Supplier has retrospectively - some months later - treated the transfer as an Erroneous Transfer of Supply. This can happen when the previous occupant moves out and the new occupant moves in, and neither party speaks to the Deemed Supplier.JJ_Egan said:Deemed contract register with existing provider and then you are free to move .

I moved into a house supplied by SP two years ago. Called them on the day I moved in and opened an account. Accepted standard variable tariff, and started the transfer to another supplier of my choice immediately. SP supplied me for just 17 days. Final bill was issued 13 days after the switch took place and I paid it by credit card. Hope it goes as smoothly for you.0
