TV Aerial Question

Hi

Probably a silly question....

I have moved into a new house. The TV aerial looks like the below photo.

How can I plug it into my TV? Do I need to get a convertor of some sort?

Thanks!

Looking at your photo, it looks like there are two cables with F type connectors.  These are normally used to feed a Sky box.

Therefore they connect to a dish, rather than a terrestrial UHF TV aerial.

Is there another cable or socket on the wall with the normal TV aerial connector (like the one on the back of the TV?

That's also the kind of connector that goes into a signal booster. If you are in a poor signal area you will need one to get a decent picture. I would have expected the sellers to have left one behind but that's not guaranteed.

You can get them from places like Screwfix.

Indeed, but the fact that there appears to be two similar cables indicates that they're probably satellite dish cables.

Hopefully the OP will let us know.

Theyre basic standard F connectors used by satellite and terrestrial, just screw off.
Wheres the white cable/s exit from?     Wallplate? (can normally be marked Sat and TV with separate outputs.) If no fcae plate, Installers usually pull a fast one and run cable down outside walls and drill through, thats easy to trace back outside. Obviously if no dish present thats not been removed, its merely just a case of putting a new RF conventional plug on. Or use that connector in to an amp for distribution.

That is the connector for satellite signal. Your TV should have a satellite tuner to be compatible (freesat) - if the TV has an 'ordinary' aerial socket (ie coax) then the TV is a freeview TV and won't connect to the satellite disk - you need a standard TV antenna.
