Ryanair Section 75

Options
Hi,  at what stage should I ask my credit card company for a refund on a cancelled Ryanair flight?  I have spent hours on end trying to arrange teh refund through their webchat but I just end up waiting for ages and then get mysteriously cut-off mid-conversation.  Can I just save myself the hassle of this and go direct to the credit card company?

  • You can go at any stage you want.

However, make sure that you have a valid reason for a refund first.

If you booked directly with Ryanair and they cancelled your flight(s) then they're obliged to refund you within 7 days, so failure to do so constitutes a breach of contract for which the credit card company is jointly liable under s75, provided of course that the tickets were over £100 each.  However, it'll usually be better to make a chargeback claim instead, as credit card companies don't pay these out of their own pockets and are therefore more likely to process them quickly and seamlessly....
  • I’m in a similar boat. Only the flights came to £97 so I don’t know where that leaves me on trying to claim it back via the CC. (My partner also booked flights for £300 for last April which he hasn’t received back).

I’ve heard it’s better to go through the company to get it back but I’m getting nowhere. Our flights were at the end of March, cancelled by the airline. I claimed for a refund, never got it. Then 20 days later they sent a voucher. I emailed to request a cash refund again. Heard nothing back.

Then about a week ago I tried contacting them through Twitter pm instead. They replied asking for details, I supplied them and now it’s radio silence. I might wait until January then try again.

Flights at £97 fall below the minimum required for section 75, so that's not an option, and you're well outside the 120 day window within which to start a chargeback claim, so your card company won't be in a position to assist, leaving you with continuing to pursue the airline, escalating to a small claims action if you run out of patience.
