Problem with skewed reading on my Electric and Gas accounts
Options
I am currently attempting to switch suppliers but have a problem with my usage readings. This has come about as a result of the recent lock-down, as our daughter and her husband had to stay with us for eight months. As a result, our meter readings, which are normally quite low were much almost double the usual amount for this period than they would have been. It now seems that, if we switch, our payment will be based on these usage figures. Is there any way round this? We are a two person household and our usage is normally quite low.

Overall you’ll pay for what you use, so while initial payments might reflect the higher historical usage you’ll find that providing you submit regular readings it’ll all even itself out.1

Yes I can understand additional people in a property can/will make a difference to the energy usage but the occupation of an additional room(s) lighting and heating shouldn't make too much difference to what energy is normally consumed.
Additional showers (if electric) yes. Additional tumble drying and washing of clothes (if used)...Yes1 -
Just tell your new supplier what you think you'll use. They should then base the payments on what you tell themNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers1

Thanks for the input. They were with us for about 8 months and had full use of everything. Didn't mind that, it's just that I didn't foresee this problem. As somebody once said, no good deed goes unpunished.

Seriously don’t worry, as I said you’ll only pay for what you use so if they’re no longer there then you’ll be using less and consequently paying for less. Just supply regular readings, keep your own record and you can’t go far wrong.0
