Debt collection and credit score

Options
I have moved from my own house to a rented property last year. Move date was 15 SEP 2019 so we informed Scottish power about move and from 15 SEP we paid bills for new rented property. The tenance for our own house moved 30 SEP 2019. So my house was empty for two weeks. Today I received a letter from UKSEARCH limited that they are collecting £30 energy bill on behalf of Scottish power for the period of 15_30 SEP 2019. Why Scottish power has done this while we were still their customers and they had our new address and direct debit?
Most important question: Should I pay bill to UKSEARCH or I have contact Scottish power?what is the consequences of this debt? I am planning to buy a house next year and getting mortgage, will this £30 debt affect me and my credit score?
Note: £30 debt is valid as I am the owner of the house although it was empty I had to pay bill but I received no email and letters which they sent to previous house never was received by me.

  • If UKSearch have asked for payment, you pay them.

Your credit score doesn't matter - what does is whether and how the debt appears on your files.

30 quid for 15 days worth of energy for an unoccupied house? This bill shouldn't be more than £10 - Scottish Power's standard standing charge is (currently) 27.39p/day/fuel, so would imply a bill of £8.21 for 15 days of an unoccupied house with gas and electricity.

Likely they haven't appreciated the house was empty and have estimated the bill on the assumption you were still living there, or they could be slapping fees on for the debt collector. Either way that seems wrong when they've got your contact details.

Easiest option, just pay the debt collector the £30 asked for. Better option give Scottish power a ring and pay them the tenner you owe - this will probably involve a bit more effort as they'll need to re-issue the bill.

You should check all three of your credit files to see if/how Scottish power are reporting this. If it is marked on your credit file as overdue or similar, you can ask them to remove it in that chat where you agree that there is a tenner's worth of standing charges you haven't been billed for and you're happy to pay what you owe.

  • I contacted Scottish power and told them I informed them about change of address. They asked me to pay the bill which was £26 and after payment they said my balance is zero and I do not need to do anything. I contacted debt collector (UKSEARCH) as well and informed them. Hope everything is ok now without impacting my credit score
  • Your score still doesn't matter, no matter how many times you worry about it.
