I've used earplugs for over 10 years now and after searching loads of types initially I now use 3M Classic
They're foam and you roll them into a sausage, push into ears and they expend. The 100% will not fall out.
These are the ones the Army use and 3 factories that I visited,  I stuck with using them since I became a civi and they are amazing.  Ear plugs and thick curtains would be the cheapest option for sure over soundproofing the room.
  • White noise machine? We have a lectrofan (most people who want to counter external noise go for a dohm or lectrofan, plenty of articles online). It can cut out a surprising amount and helps for people who find random noise bothering and it feels like you're kind of listening for it when there isnt any. Best way I can describe it but that might make sense to people. I love having the sound of a fan in the summer so use the lectrofan to have the same thing in the winter without the cold breeze and dust being moved around.

Pink noise is nicer on the ears. According to wiki, pink noise is one of the most common signals in biological systems.

Yes I have a lectrofan, fortunately I've not had to use it recently but at one point it was blocking out all sorts every night. I like that there are a choice of tones.
