Dispute with Bathroom Fitter

Hi, new to the forum but looking for some advice.
I had a new en-suite shower room installed in September, which i have had numerous issues with since, with the situation now developing into a dispute with the fitter.
From completion of installation, the shower enclosure was leaking around the glass and profiles. After numerous visits to solve the issue, the fitter agreed to arrange a replacement. He said he was a procedure on his elbow, so wouldn't be able to do it himself but would pay for someone else to do it.
Original fitter brought round the replacement unit, and arranged for a second fitter to come a few days later. He later left me an envelope with money to give to the second fitter, as he said he wouldn't be home on the day they were coming.
The replacement unit has the same issues as the first. Original fitter is saying that because he left me the money to pay the second fitter, that this was him issuing a refund, and any problems I have should now be taken up with the second fitter. At no point did i engage the second fitter, this was all done through original fitter. Therefore I see this as his subcontractor, and I have no contract or legal claim against the second fitter.
Could someone advise that my understanding is correct? Although the original fitter left me with the money to pay the second fitter, I would argue that payment was not made by me, and therefore was in no way a refund. I don't even know the value of the payment, as I mentioned it was in a sealed envelope.

Thanks. I can't really see how I wouldn't be correct, but by the original fitter giving me the money to pay his second fitter, I was worried that might be seen as me 'accepting' a refund.Aylesbury_Duck said:I think you're correct.0
