White zig zag lines

Hi yesterday afternoon while I was driving my tyre got punctured and I had a weird noise coming out of the engine so I had to do an emergency stop on side of the main road. When I got out of the car while my engine was still running to have a quick look at the tyre I realised I was parked On a white zig zag line and went straight in my car. While I was doing that I saw a lady(member of the public) taking a picture of me and the car and told me I could not park in there, I apologised and told her about my tyre got back in my car and parked further up somewhere secure. I was wondering if she will be able to do something with that picture? Is she allowed to take a picture of me and my car? I would appreciate if you guys could help me out with this query. Thanks

She will possibly upload her pic to a Police website but I don't think you'd get anything more than a warning letter as a result.  Probably nothing.

You shouldn't stop there but it was a breakdown so shouldn't be an issue.

If a red light appeared on your  dash board then stopping is advisable.  Have you complained to your MP.?
You never know how far you can go until you go too far.

    Yes, of course she is!
If you are public place you can take a photograph of (almost) anybody or anything you can see. The only exceptions are if it contravened the Official Secrets Act or the photograph was indecent.

Under some limited circumstances there may be civil remedies available if the photograph is published. However the cost of such actions makes them largely restricted to the very rich and famous. A very well known and incredibly wealthy author springs to mine!

  • Well, OP, I would have also taken her photo and said "Thanks, now I have a way of identifying you to the police and my lawyer."

Which the OP is quite entitled to do. However, I am not sure how that would help?

The OP admits they had stopped where they shouldn't. Given that, when challenged, the OP was able to move the car somewhere safer rather suggests that they weren't actually forced to stop on the zig zags in the first place.

Not sure what an MP can possibly do about some random Mrs Norris Cole meddling around, taking nosey-parker photos of what she deems 'wrong'.

I suspect the Nun has been given too much of a festive seeing-to! 😫
