smart meter only electric changed to new sopplier

Options
Changed from eon to bg in september, later got an email from bg that they were not getting the gas readings from the smart meter only electric, they tried something at their end but still the same. When I check on the meter it shows bg as supplier for electric but still shows eon for gas, it does show the meter reading for the gas but not the price. Just checked my account on line and it was asking for a gas reading which I submitted, I then just used the readings and bg tariff to check how much I am using in the way of costs, my calculation is showing a lot less than I thought, I did include the daily charge. The only real difference is I am now living alone since March and did reduce the thermostat 1 degree but I estimate my total use is about £60 or £70 less than expected

  • Check that your gas transfer to BG has gone through by using this site:

If BG is listed as your supplier, then they need to sort out why they are not getting smart meter readings. It is possible that your gas supply is still with E.oN, if it is, then this is also something that BG needs to resolve.

Did you remember that the gas meter measures m3 but you're billed in kWh? As a rough guide, you can multiply m3 by 11.2 to get kWh.
  • Thanks for the link Dolor, I checked and I am listed as gas supplied by bg.
Thanks for the reply Talldave, I am aware that the meter is in M3 but the smart meter also shows kwh per day/week/month, this is where it gets strange it is showing 668 kwh for the week up to now but in the history past five weeks are all about 150 kwh.
If I take the last 24 hours meter reading in M3 and convert it to kwh it works out to about 179 kwh which would give me about the correct consumption cost in winter so the meter looks like it is reading the m3 ok but the kwh are strange,
  • All smart gas meters record usage in M3s. The IHD does its own internal calculation to convert to kWhs. You can check whether your smart meter is still sending readings by looking at the N3rgy.com website. Sign up and then use the link ‘I am a consumer’.

I think that the only figure you should use/trust is the m3 on the meter, or possibly on the In Home Display if you've confirmed enough times that the IHD reflects the meter reliably.
