My printer has given up the ghost and I need to replace with an all-in-one colour inkjet printer/copier/scanner.
All the printers I've seen allegedly require me to be using Windows 7, 8 or 10.but I'm still using Windows XP on my desktop PC because it's not worth upgrading at the moment (I only use it for my accounts using MS Office 2003 (yes, really).
I can't see why a printer won't just work like my dead one used to. Am I right?

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

As long as you can install the drivers for XP or if later OS drivers work .

I can't see why a printer won't just work like my dead one used to. Am I right? No. XP was discontinued by Microsoft back in 2014, and as happened with every version of Windows prior to it, once the creator stops supporting it, the hardware stops supporting it too eventually. This has already happened to a certain extent. A very quick Amazon scan for the cheapest Epson printer suggests they still support XP, but how much longer I do not know.I do hope you are not on the internet with that version of Windows, as you are basically asking for trouble. None of the major web browsers support it, Microsoft don't support it, many anti-virus programs don't support it...Also I would probably argue that if you weren't able to submit your accounts to HMRC because your computer was old and using unsupported software (so online submitting wouldn't work), the excuse wouldn't wash with the tax man.2 -
. . . And yet another huge government department, namely the NHS, still has thousands of computers running XP
