If you only give it a reading once a month it will take a couple of months before you'll see whats going on, do it weekly and you get results in a couple or three weeks, do it daily and you'll get even more info,

Therefore the accuracy and usefulness of the information depends on how often you enter meter readings. It's down to you to decide what level of granularity you want.

Take a look at an app (IOS only) called Meter Readings by Graham Haley.
Just found my old iPhone. Have downloaded this. Looks promising actually. I'll give it a whirl. Thanks for the suggestion.
Never tried it on a phone (use an iPad) so hope all is well. Any questions get responded to quickly by the author but make sure you read any FAQs first! Takes a few days of readings to start showing useful stuff.
Hmm this is maybe where i get caught out for not reading in to it more first.

"Few days"? You have to submit readings daily?
I know some have their spreadsheets broken down daily but i don't really want mine that detailed. I'd be happy with monthly.
Don’t have to submit anything!  Just put in the meter readings as and when. If you do it monthly then you’re gonna be waiting a while to see anything meaningful in the app, do it daily for a couple of weeks and at least you can look at some sort of chart!  I do actually enter readings daily as it’s no hassle unless it’s raining into the front porch where the meters are.
