What's the best gift you've ever received or given?

Browsing through the "worst christmas present"-thread, it seems obvious that in most cases, it's not really the gift itself that's so bad, it's when the giver obviously hasn't given much thought to what the recipient would like that the problems start. (Rule of thumb: never EVER buy a diet-book or something similar unless your recipient has specifically asked for it.)
But what's the best gift you've ever had? Was it expensive or just something really thoughtful?
I have several candidates, I think. When I was little I remember getting the Barbie something-or-other House, which I'd really wanted and was so expensive I assumed I wouldn't get it
Now, though, I think the best gift I've had is a small teddybear from my boyfriend to cheer me up for my exams. Which isn't expensive at all but did wonders to calm me down when I was nervous.
So how about you? What's your best present?

Don't want to blow my own trumpet too much
but the best present I ever gave was to my BF last year.
I got some cheap dvd storage boxes and covered them with pictures taken from old marvel comics (taken from t'interweb and printed) in a kind of collage and then coated with PVA and then filled the boxes with every live action marvel film made (got most of them cheap too! :j ).
It was so beautiful and he loved it (he likes Marvel comics, would have probably been a rubbish gift if he hadn't) and it made my Christmas knowing that he loved it so much. I much prefer giving presents.
But then again the best present I ever got was a lovely bracelet and necklace from my BF because he had them specially made for me :T :A0 -
My hubby gave me a photobook of our little girl last Christmas and I love it - all the little sayings he put in - nice reminder of the stage she was at 0 have put in an order for another one this year0

One birthday, many years ago, my boyfriend of that moment sent me a lovely bunch of flowers. BUT: he didn't send them to my home, but to my work address! It gave me a great feeling all day long: first of all the call from the receptionist and going to collect them - then all the colleagues spotting this huge bunch on my desk: oooh, such wonderful flowers - who sent those?? ooh, is it your birthday?? It felt like an all-day birthday celebration and I recall it even now as one of the very best presents I ever received. Last year, i got married..... i didnt tell anyone at work as i keep myself to myself kind of thing, im fairly shy. But someone asked me what i was doing over the weekend-i said 'oh im getting married tomorrow!' my god the place went mad! In ten minutes (after being told to stay where i was and not go running off!) they presented me with a card and some money they'd quickly rounded up!
It probably sounds silly, but it really meant a lot to me that they'd do that as i only work there part time cleaning for them! I went home with a massive smile on my face! They're lovely!

Received: a pair of Caterpillar boots from my B/F that I've worn and worn since receiving them 2 Xmas' ago.
My 3 sisters bought me a diamond bracelet last year for my 40th, that was a huge surprise.
Given: a motorcrosser for my 2nd eldest last year (he had his other one stolen the Sept. before) - sent him out for some coal on Xmas morning, much to his annoyance, and the bike was waiting for him with a big bow!
Also got my B/F tickets to the theatre last year; it was his first trip to see a show and he loved it.
This year I'm going to surprise all 4 of my boys, and my B/F with tickets to see the Foo Fighters at Wembley next June.
I disguise all the kids presents so that they have no idea what is in each parcel, so a games console will go in a huge box, inside another huge box. Computer games, DVD's etc. all go in larger packages or boxes, and it out-foxed my eldest boys good and proper last year. He, he. Giving is always the best. One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing
Be nice to your children, they'll choose your care home0 -
