Samsung Galaxy phone updates

My dad bought a Samsung Galaxy phone in 2015 or 16. In the past 2 weeks, there have been 3 updates sent through. I have downloaded the first 2 but am concerned by so many updates in a short period of time so have not installed the 3rd update. I don't know if this is related but the wifi setting keeps being turned off, so the 2nd update used up all the mobile data allowance and then some. I personally have an iPhone so don't know these Android phones.
Should there be so many updates in a short period of time?
Should I install the latest update?
Is it normal for an update to turn off the wifi on the phone?
Many thanks in advance.

Which Galaxy is it?  Quite a few came out in that era.

If the update went from one Android version to another its normal that data will be on, particularly if it was off previously.  Wifi is not normally affected, but apps can change the wifi status (and the phone may selectively disable power hungry features like Wifi if its low on battery).

Are you referring to updates to the software or updates to the apps through the Play Store?  Play Store updates happen automatically and occasionally include updates to the core apps like Messages/Phone/Browser.

Not sure about the model number. Can find out tomorrow when I visit parents.
I think it is Android updates but not entirely sure. Did not know that about wifi being turned off if the battery is low.
I suspect that the update is turning off the wifi, but as you say, it could be done due to low battery power.
Should there be 3 Android updates in 2 weeks? It is possible that the same update is requiring re-installation. But I think of the 2 updates I have started so far, they seem to have installed successfully.
