To switch or not to switch (before Christmas), that is the question
Hello all.
Quite simple but not sure, my deal with eon expires 17th January. I can switch now to the next best deal but very busy and was thinking if I can leave it after Christmas. Does anyone know of the deals offered after that or even after new year would be far worse than now? At the moment I can save around £200 based on my usage. However, that is not entirely accurate as it compares variable deal I'd automatically go on if not switched. However, eon is offering me a deal which is more expensive that the current one but better than their standard variable so probably my saving wouldn't be that much hence may not even be worth my time to switch at all. Thanks everyone for your comments and have a Happiest possible Christmas.

I'm not being funny but you say you're too busy to do it now yet in the time it took you to write this post you could have run a comparison and filled out the form to initiate the switch? The £200 "saving" is almost always going to be if you didn't move in the first place and ended up on some ridiculously "standard" tariff. If you find a good deal now and you're in the window, go for it. Tariffs tend not to hang around and if you're in the right place at the right time, you'll be quids in, especially with a cheap tariff. Also check separate gas and electricity suppliers, it can be cheaper.3

I have noticed prices creeping upwards this week so you may have already missed the cheapest boat. I changed gas Sunday, +£19 from that supplier (and overall cheapest) today.

wholesale costs on an average annual contract have risen about £30-£40 in the last month, with a lot of suppliers increasing their cheapest tariff by around that amount in the last week.
If you wait a few weeks the wholesale market might start to drop again which will see prices decrease back down - however with 1st Jan coming up I don't think anyone can really predict how the prices will go based on the Brexit negotiations.
If you can switch to a cheaper tariff that you're on currently without any exit fees on the new tariff, then there's no reason to wait.0 -
This from Martin's weekly email:"Last week, we told you we thought many big energy firms would pull their cheap switchers' tariffs any moment as they hit year-end targets, and most went by Fri,"

Look for a deal for 12 months without exit fee and check that the unit rates are cheaper than your actual deal. Right now every supplier is rising tariffs, so switching to a variable tariff could end in repeating the process again or paying more, specially if you are busy to keep an eye in any update.0
