CCJ turning to Default after a few years.

Options
Sorry if this isn't the right place.

So around 7 years ago I was issued with a CCJ, no problem with that. But then suddenly a few years back according to my credit report, the amount dropped by about £2.5k and then suddenly it started saying it was a DEFAULT. I havent had any written notification from Hitatchi Finance for about 3 years now so I have no idea why this is for a start. According to the maths etc, it should have dropped off my file in November 2019 but over a year later it's still there. I gave it the benefit of the doubt thinking I may have got the maths wrong so I have it another year which will now take me to 7 years. As said iv not had any form of correspondence from them about anything for years. So I'm at a complete loss.

Iv never heard of a CCJ changing to Default. I didnt even know it could happen. Iv paid to have a full search against my name and it shows theres nothing against it, but there in black and white on every single credit report I look at, it's there. I'm literally lost.

A judgement is just shown in the public information section of your file.
The debt it relates too will be in a totally separate area.
One has no bearing on the other, a creditor can choose to default an account at any time the requirement for doing so is met.
Having said that, a judgement should only show for 6 years, then automatically drop off your file, regardless of whether it’s been paid or not.
You have two potential issues here, an account defaulted too late, and a judgement that has not dropped off your file, to resolve issue one, write to the creditor concerned and ask they backdate the default to an earlier date, when you first got into trouble, mark your letter COMPLAINT.
Issue two, contact the ICO helpline and see what there advice is, as these things are supposed to happen automatically, if/when it doesn't, I’m not sure whose responsibility it will be to rectify this.

The other possibility is it is two loans. The first had a CCJ on which eventually fell off, the second is a smaller amount that has now been reported as defaulted.
