They seem to be based in Bromley
    FREDERICK CHARLES ART LIMITED
    GROUND FLOOR 41 STATION APPROACH
    HAYES
    BROMLEY
    BR2 7EB
and have been trading since 2015
I found some data on them if its the same outfit.
Just because they are trading and active doesn't mean they are reputable (or not)
    Hope that helps.

Hopefully this page is a google hit when someone does a search for this company.

The company does have a website but it doesnt mean it is genuine, not a scam or at best buying overpriced art. London Capital & Finance and their ilk also had websites!
It might be worth you calling the number on their website to check if it was actually them calling you or someone impersonating them so at least then people would know if Frederick Charles Art are a scam or are being setup by scammers themselves
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
  • I like modern art, especially Kandinsky and the like, but I took a look at the paintings they are selling and honestly a 13 year old child could have done better. Maybe they are legit, but they are selling tat. IMO of course.

As an aside, 30 years ago I went with friends to a free Bridget Riley exhibition at the
Serpentine gallery. We all came out with a headache.

Art is always in the eye of the beholder, that said I personally never pay high prices for paintings and prefer the small local artist work you see at craft fairs etc.

  • Hi, a company has asked for a right of reply. MSE doesn't endorse anything a company says on the Forum:

'I am Ediz Mustafa, the CEO and founder of Frederick Charles Art. In response to the comment posted by @garmeg, firstly, I would like to offer my sincere apologies for any intrusion and subsequent doubts raised by the phone call you received.

Under normal circumstances, we do not ‘cold call’ clients, however, the same as many businesses, we have found ourselves in unusual times in the wake of COVID -19, mainly due to the fact that we have been unable to organically engage with new clients in the usual way of art fairs, exhibitions and personal contact. On this particular occasion the call did not have the desired effect, and for this once again we sincerely apologise.

By using the services of a reputable, GDPR compliant and ICO registered company, we were simply trying a new approach to interact with potential clients to whom our services could be of benefit. This approach was in fact overall a success, and we have managed to connect with new clients who have in turn benefited financially themselves from using our services.

It is absolutely imperative to us as a well established and respected company, who have worked tirelessly to gain a reputation built on trust and respect over the last 10 years that we dispel any concerns expressed on this forum.

It was never and never will be our intention to disturb or distress potential clients, rather offer them an opportunity to make full use of our knowledge and expertise in these most difficult of times.

Should @garmeg wish to contact me personally, please do email the following email and I will be only too happy to speak with you. info@fcharlesart.uk'

I am sorry Ediz, and I wish your business well, but I can't not highlight the above!  It's an illness I am cursed with.

Was cold called today by someone called Amy at this company. Tried to lead my answers to questions about art investments. They are going to send me details by post - to an address i moved from 14 years ago. Not going to tell them my address has changed. Lol.

Would I like the art to hang in my home or do i want them to look after it in secure storage for me. Hmmm let me think about that, lol.

Cold calling about investments is a bit of a no no really.

EDIT: 1471 returns their number as 02037457562
Hello, I’m one of many people who have been affected by this company and am gathering others with similar experiences, as there are multiple reports of potentially fraudulent activity. If you believe you’ve been scammed or misled, I’ve created a Facebook group where we can connect, share our experiences, and discuss possible actions moving forward. It's called Frederick Charles Art - Group Action Page on Facebook.
  • If you want some art, buy it at a reputable gallery or auction.
And so we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

What do you feel is fraudulent? "Investment art" is perfectly legal, even if it is a guaranteed way to loose money.

I didn't buy the artwork. It was my late father who was terminally ill at the time and was cold called. Ethically it is at least questionable. But 3 years down the line we are still unable to get the art work out of storage we are questioning whether it was even there to begin with. All contact has ceased now and we have sought legal advice. Here is a definition of fraud for you. Fraud is the intentional act of deceiving or misleading someone to gain an unfair or unlawful advantage, usually financial. If this isn't fraud what is?
