How to keep squirrels off the house

Was out looking up at the outside of the house (top half is pebble dashed, 1930’s build) and noticed a squirrel, clung on for dear life, on the pebble dash just under the guttering looking down at me. Then it carried on around the house, under the gutter and onto next doors house
aside from a pellet gun (joking), or an Alsatian that climbs walls, what can I do please? Con about them getting into our loft as a guy at work has got rats at the moment and giving him the worlds biggest headache

thanks everyone in advance

  • they can only get into your loft if there’s a hole for them to get into.

I'd imagine they'll find it easy to get into your loft, they'll be plenty of room under the eaves, given the age of your property.

thata what I’m worried about. I was up there last week tidying up and moving bits around and I could see daylight right in the eaves, most of the way around. Not huge gaps but I guess from that period of construction.  Bit enough to see daylight out of and to hear people outside

what options do I have? We have a lot of large conifers at the bottom of the garden approx 18m away from the house, so it’s a haven for wildlife (which until about an hour ago, I enjoyed)

  • Block the holes with wire mesh. I wouldn't advise using anything too solid as reducing air flow in to a cold roof is generally a bad idea.
  • Get your local pest controller in to trap the squirrels & errrmm dispose of them.

If they are just moving around looking for nuts, they are not going to damage your house.
    Squirrels are not rats.

My first thought was mesh as Troflasky said. That would be the quickest and cheapest but how to attach it so it can't be pushed out of place is another puzzle to be thought through.
This stuff would be easier to lay

Look through Soffit Vents and see what appeals.
I wonder how much the pvc ventilator found under the eves of modern building would cost or if you could blag some old/second hand?
I've not heard of squirrels in a roof but it probably happens.
I seem to have stopped my squirrel taking a short cut over my roof by fixing cheap expanding trellis against the top of the panel fence and he goes and bothers someone else now. Can you break their route so they leave your house alone.

I have a squirrel trap, you trap them all and errrmm dispose of them and next year there's a whole new family moves in.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
  • Yes it's an ongoing thing with pests of any sort.

Squirrels can & do get into house loft spaces on a regular basis & can cause considerable damage.
Notably gnawing through electric cables, lead water pipes & plastic water pipes.
