O/S Daily Thursday 18 December 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark and mild.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was a HM lasagna with chips/salad - very nice it was too.. Not sure what we'll be eating tonight, but will sort it this morning.
Work still not telling us anything constructive, now on days' off until Monday.
Have a list to work my way through, so will do that. By the end of today I want to be ready for xmas with all food and drink (non perishables) bought and just the last bits to buy.
I need to wrap the parcels too.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc, enjoy your days off, seems like you're very organised. I don't have to do much shopping for the big day so feeling quite relaxed. Just waiting for one more delivery but it should be here before Christmas as it's live plants.
Very quiet day at work yesterday, hoping for a bit more action today, can't do with being bored!
My eye appt went well, I have dry eye and not something stuck under my eyelid! I've got some drops to put in so hopefully it will feel better soon.
Hugs to those not doing so well, how's your DM bella?
Have a good day, take care. XX13 -
Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC - sorry to hear there's nothing settled at work yet.We had a busy day yesterday with Dgs, but didn't go to the park to feed the birds - it rained all day, and he seemed quite happy with play doh, and other toys so i didn't suggest it.We're painting the kitchen today, it definitely needs a freshen up.Gers, glad your Mum seems to be picking up. You mentioned queueing to get into the M&S car park at the Metrocentre, yes, I've seen that a few times, I think in normal times it would have been like that the other day this near Christmas.Quite a few of my friends prefer shopping in Newcastle, and I like it too, but in the winter I like an indoor shopping centre.Nels, sorry I missed your birthday yesterday, but hope you had a good day, and enjoyed your duck.Hester, life seems to be difficult for you at the moment, hope it improves.Marie, missed your posts, hope you'll be ok.Bella, I suppose it was inevitable that your Mum would get Covid, being on a Covid ward, what a worry for you.Ruby, glad you are going on all right, keep on keeping on.Thinking of the poorly and recovering people, and hoping everyone has a good Thursday.15

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Grr to work keeping you all hanging on for an update. CAMELOT glad your eye problem can be solved with drops. MARIE I was sorry to read your post last night, Worrying times for you and I have all crossed for Monday when you hopefully find out more. Life is bad enough these days living with Covid without other problems being thrown at us. We have a lot of health worries on here just now.
DD had to go for her first Covid vacc yesterday as she is front line care. She had to go to the big hospital in the city and, unlike her, she had got all strung up about it. It's usually me that's the worrier whilst she is the voice of reason. I offered to go with her for support - waiting in the car obviously; She was in well over an hour and I was frozen stiff by the time she came out. We had a little time to kill before school pick up so had a wander in Asda. I ended up buying quite a few things I have on my order for Sunday so that can now be pruned.
It must be Thursday as I am making a Bolognese Bake for the girls! I hope it lives up to the glowing write up! As a treat I am also making middle DGDs favourite pud for afters - treacle sponge and custard. Maybe the commendation on that will be in the next book!!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need. Thinking of you and your DM BELLA and hoping she is improving a little; Take care one and all and stay safe x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"14 -

Good King Wenceslas looked out
On the feast of Stephen
When the snow lay round about
Deep and crisp and even
Brightly shone the moon that night
Though the frost was cruel
When a poor man came in sight
Gathering winter fuel
Morning
I was asked about three months ago what was happening at my house on Christmas Eve (usually lots of family, food and drink). I said I'm carrying on as normal for now, but please keep it in the back of your mind that we might have to cancel – we'll have to keep an eye on things. Back then I thought we'd have to cancel tbh, but was a little bit hopeful that the lockdown would make a big difference. It was obvious weeks ago that things were only going to get worse so I told people it's probably not going to happen. Confirmed it to them yesterday, for some reason they still thought everything was fine! It went down like a lead balloon with one person, who immediately started coming up with creative loopholes. I wanted to rant about stupidity and selfishness but I managed to remain very grown up about it. I'm probably the black sheep of the family now, lol.
So it's only son and DIL coming round. Two households, five people. I hope everyone's hungry, there's a lot of food to get through, lol.
It was so gloomy yesterday, I had to put the lights on at about 2pm. We managed a walk in between heavy downpours – there was a light shower when we went out so we still got wet – but there's no rain forecast for today so it'll be a nicer walk. I feel a bit deflated, not sure why, it'll be too easy to curl up on the sofa for the day so will potter about trying to find things to keep me busy.

Morning all, thank you for starting today's thread nmlc. Your work situation see,s to be dragging on, not nice for anyone.
MeanMarie hope you get good news next week.
Hester I've been thinking of you.
After a day of constant rain that stopped only once it had got fully dark, today looks a bit nicer but hard to tell until it gets properly light. I got lots done yesterday so can please myself today, except for essential jobs. Nothing much happening here, as usual.
Hope everyone has a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back14 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
Thanks for the carol tru.
It rained all day yesterday and was dark all day.
Steve's going into town to get cash out the bank today, I'm collecting the last of my parcels from dd1.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.15 -
Good morning folks. Thanks for the lovely tune Tru, one of my favourites.Marie - I hope that you feel better soon and that the investigations come up with a diagnosis soon.Yesterday I managed a few things when out including posting the wee packets. What I didn't manage was to find red currant jelly so will try somewhere else. We're having venison on Christmas Day so need the jelly for that. There may well be a jar in one of DM's cupboards so I'll root around there first.Today is cleaner day so everything is ready for her. I'll go out when she's here, need to drop things off at the tip and there's a bag of stuff for a CS. Finally I'll buy the cleaner and her husband a fancy wee cake each. All the new guidance from the four nations about Christmas are very confusing. We're being told that we can travel but not stay overnight 😮 I'm not sure that anyone travelling a fair way is going to drive back after a day of celebrating with hardly seen all year friends or family. My daydreams yesterday took me to trying to remember my best ever Christmas present, such a difficult thing. Perhaps it's The Beatles 'Rubber Soul' LP, I really wanted it badly. 😃Now it's time to wish everyone a very happy Thursday.14

Hi everyone,
I hope the poorly DMs are improving, especially Bella's poor mum. Also healing thoughts for Ruby and Marie. Hester, I hope things improve a bit soon.
I've been up since 4.30 with a hyper Esben (he'd been awake since 3.00) so that Laura can get a bit more sleep. I'll have to have a Nonna nap this afternoon I think. Steve and Brian are golfing this morning and usually I'd be walking Ziggy but we had to take her to the vet yesterday because she started hopping on three legs. She needed to be sedated so that she could be examined and she has split a claw, which apparently is very painful so no walks for the next few days.
I made some pork, broccoli and taleggio lasagnes for Christmas Eve and this morning I want to make the cauliflower cheese. It will need a bit of freezer rejigging to get them in.
I hope you all have a good day.

Morning
Another grim day by the look of it here but its forecast sunny later so maybe i'll get my shorts on and head out .....or maybe not
Enjoyed my birthday in a strange way sometimes you just have to make the most of the current situation as most of us know in this awful year. I had my crispy duck which was a real success with tons left over. A few wines were enjoyed as well of course. Had a good call with my American friend who shares the same day but clearly the rules there are are a lot different so she was off to a party in her name in the evening ...mmmm wonder why their rates are so high! Watched Christmas chronicles on netflix
whilst scoffing some after eights
worth a watch if you have netflix
tru Im with you on Christmas and if that makes you the black sheep then at least you know you haven't killed anyone. We have decided as a family to do our own thing and not put anyone at risk. Mum normally goes to my brothers for a few days but they have lots of people popping in and family buffets with the sil family so lets face it we don't know where they've been
At 90 its really not worth the risk so everyone has decided on the difficult but imo sensible decision to stay in our own homes.
Today I can't play the birthday card so need to crack on with some house stuff. More duck for dinner then Ill portion up for the freezer
Have a good day all and special thoughts to Bellas mum and Ruby xx14 -
Good morning all I am just popping in to wish you all a very merry Xmas and to please please beg you all to take this virus seriously and to keep your loved ones safe it is unlikely that I will be on the forum for a while as we are at the hospital with my mum she has contracted Covid and as of now she is being made comfortable but there is no more that can be done Dd2 and I are with her constantly but unfortunately despite the hospital best efforts there will be no good outcome thank you all for your thoughts over the last few weeks much love to you all xxxSlava Ukraini17
